    Finished my 2020 project.
    Let me call it #6502portable.
It closes the loop between my starting point in 1986 and now. Like a Terminator time line, just backwards.
It's an Atari 800XL on a USB powerbank, video output captured into a Raspi on a 2nd powerbank.
Visuals inspired by Alien movie where computers look like they should. Released in 1979, the year of Atari 800.
I have rarely felt more satisfied.

While driving home with my Chinese takeout, the bags were rustling and moving!!! I thought what on earth is that; has something gotten into the bag? I thought I could see a little pair of eyes peering out. I pulled over, leaned forward, picked up the bag, put it on the passenger seat. There it was again, rustling and little eyes looking out behind the ginger beef! I thought its got to be a rat or a mouse or something, so I carefully pulled the bag down ...And there it was ..... A Peeking Duck!!!

The Matra Terminal by Minitel from 1984. This was used to access Videotex, which before the web, was probably one of the most online services. Actually, even after the web, there were still millions of Minitel network connections as of 2009 (according to Wikipedia)
I'm totally fond of this aesthetic and the fact the keyboard folds *into* the screen. The photo version is probably a later model

i am doing some digging on the internet. obviously my old laconica account is gone. i did have a statusnet account, is there any instances of gnu social that still uses statusnet accounts?

ok i have not been following things for awhile. stausnet looks like it became gnu social. what happened to gnu social? when i go to the site it wants me to start my own instance, but does not have any listings for current instances. has gnu social be taken over by another?? possibly mastodon?

just trying to catch up on the internet happening over the last 5 to 10 years.

ok now i went to a real search engine and get away from google/duckduckgo/startpage. i did find on dogpile this:

    https://gnusocial.network

could not find any links to it on ducjduckgo or startpage. seems like the google bubble has effected them also.

That's the first match on DuckDuckGo for "gnu social servers" 😅

so let me ask so that i will know:

If i follow on another instance does it drag all taht data thru my local instance server? example: if i am on identi.ca and i follow [email protected], then does it bring all of A's traffic thru the server or does the client go and fetch the data?

just currious of how this works

Dianara v1.4.1 is that old? i am on a P3 800 Mhz machine running ubuntu studio 18.04 LTS 32 bit.

    Tom Tishken at 2020-12-31T19:22:50Z

i just looked at the ubuntu list it says 1.4.1-1 is the latest. is there a new one for ubuntu? i will go look back at the website.

    Tom Tishken at 2020-12-31T19:39:00Z

i will have to chack later what file versions i need before trying a make file command.

do i need to uninstall before i install the newer version?

    Tom Tishken at 2020-12-31T20:00:25Z

Well, 1.4.1 is old, but that already supports address verification (since 1.3.3).

If you're not getting a warning when following those non-pump.io (therefore, not valid in this context) accounts, I guess the servers they're on support the Webfinger standard, even if they're not Pump.io servers.

But seriously, don't bother trying to follow non-pump.io accounts.

i have became aware that the web is different than using an app.

i know that dianara is different than andstatus. seems each has its own strength.

The web i great for a quick peak at what is hapening and quick message.

The apps by far have more user function.
