Resh is a minor character in Horizon Zero Dawn.

History[]

Horizon Zero Dawn[]

Resh, along with two other Braves, accompanied High Matriarch Lansra as she interrupted Aloy's Naming Ritual, standing by as Lansra interrogated Rost and chastised Teersa.[1]

Around 18 years later, when Aloy came to Mother's Heart to partake in the Proving, Resh was standing guard outside the participants' bedhouse. He insulted Aloy under his breath as she went in, but she rebuked with an infuriating insult and slammed the door in his face, much to Resh's annoyance.[2]

The-Proving-3

Resh was the first proctor of the Proving, supervising the participants as they killed Grazers for Proving Trophies. He laughed at Aloy when Bast shot and broke Aloy's trophy.[3]

After the Proving Massacre led to War-Chief Sona's disappearance while searching for those responsible, Resh was made the interim War-Chief until she returns.

The-Womb-Of-The-Mountain-8

Resh and another Brave were standing on the walls of Mother's Watch to keep an eye out for a "demon" that had been sighted nearby. When Aloy approached him, Resh was disappointed that she survived the massacre, along with the fact that she was taken into All-Mother Mountain. He further voiced his frustration that none of the Proving participants shot Aloy in the back. When Aloy demanded that he open the gate out of Mother's Watch, declaring that she has been anointed a Seeker, Resh is further disgusted, believing that Teersa and Jezza have gone mad. They then spot the "demon" corrupting a herd of Striders, who then charge the gates. Resh helped Aloy and the other Braves in the defense after the machines break through. Once the machines were all destroyed, Resh ordered the gate to be repaired as Aloy left.[4]

After Sona returns from the hunt for the killers,[5] Resh is returned to his lower position.

Some time later, the Sacred Lands were invaded by the Eclipse alongside several Corruptors, Deathbringers and corrupted machines, successfully reaching the Embrace. Under the orders of Teersa, and despite Lansra's protests, the entire Nora tribe, including Resh, took refuge inside All-Mother Mountain for survival and to make their last stand.[6]

Heart of the Nora Quest

Resh, along with many other Nora, witnessing Aloy return from All-Mother.

After Aloy returned and she and many of the remaining Braves killed the invaders and their Thunderjaw outside the mountain, she greeted Resh, mush to his annoyance. He then witnessed Aloy enter inner sanctum of the All-Mother Mountain, dropping to his knees alongside the rest of the tribe in worship when she returned.[7]

Before Aloy left, she approached Resh one more time. Despite having just dropped to his knees in worship moments before, Resh tells her that the tribe he served is gone and that soon, he will be too, along with cursing All-Mother.[8]

Personality[]

Resh is hostile towards Aloy because of her lack of a mother and her former outcast status, despite her proving herself time after time to be worthy. His bigotry towards her is so severe that he believes the Proving participants who were killed in the ambush were not true Nora, as none of them shot at her. He also believed her to be a curse that was the cause of the Corruptor that attacked Mother's Watch.[9] When the Nora started worshipping Aloy as the Anointed, Resh said that the tribe that he had served was gone and that soon, he would be too.[8]

Resh has a habit of using intimidating body language, such as standing threateningly above Aloy and baring his teeth at her.[4] He also seems to easily be persuaded by peer pressure, as he dropped to his knees alongside the rest of the tribe to worship Aloy when she returned from All-Mother, only waiting until he was alone with her to reveal his true feelings.[7]

Trivia[]

  • Resh's name is the twentieth letter in many Semitic alphabets.
  • Resh's face paint looks like the Seeker face paint, although just the left half, mirrored to be around his right eye. This face paint is also worn by the other male Proctor at the Proving.[3]
    • While the meaning of this face paint is unknown, it's unlikely to represent a Seeker as Resh is never known to be one.
