- "Harry turned and saw something monstrous cutting through the water toward them: a human body in swimming trunks with the head of a shark. . . . It was Krum. He appeared to have transfigured himself — but badly."
- — Krum after having transfigured himself into a shark in the Great Lake[src]
The shark (superorder Selachimorpha) was a type of large carnivorous fish characterised by five to seven gill slits on the sides of the head, and pectoral fins that were not fused to the head.[1] A shark was one possible corporeal form of the Patronus Charm.[2]
History[]
In a 1913 Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry concerning Boggarts, a student's Boggart changed into a shark, to which the student used the Boggart-Banishing Spell to turn it into a flotation device.[3]
In 1995, for the second task of the Triwizard Tournament which took place in the Great Lake at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Viktor Krum partially transfigured himself into a shark to complete it.[4]
The Dukuwaqa, mascot of the Fijian National Quidditch team, was a magical creature capable of shape-shifting between the forms of a shark and a human.[5]

- Sharks were briefly mentioned in the W.O.M.B.A.T. test as a question about what would receive the heaviest punishment. Another one of the questions discussed using the Cruciatus Curse on a shark attacking a Muggle.
