The Vibe 98.8 is a radio station in Grand Theft Auto IV that plays soul and R&B.
Description[]
The station is hosted by Vaughn Harper and is one of the most chronologically diverse radio stations in GTA IV as its playlist contains songs from the 1970s to the late 2000s. The station does not appear in Episodes from Liberty City and is instead replaced by Vice City FM although in Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition, it, along with all other GTA IV exclusive radio stations, appears in The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.
It is likely that the station is based on WBLS, an actual urban adult contemporary radio station in New York City which Vaughn Harper has hosted shows on.
This is one of the preferred stations of Roman Bellic, Kate McReary, Carmen Ortiz, and Dwayne Forge. Niko Bellic also appears to like this station, as he says it has "great music" when asking a taxi driver to change to the station.

Deleted Songs[]
Upon inspection of the "american.gxt" files of GTA IV, the following song can be found, which suggests it was due to appear in the game but did not make it to the final version.
The following song was requested and approved to be in the game, however for whatever reason they didn't make the cut:
- Res - "They-Say Vision" (2001)[2]
Prominent Appearances in Gameplay[]

- The station plays at the following locations:
- Dwayne Forge's Apartment
- The Triangle Club (GTA IV only)
Individual Tracks[]
- "Footsteps in the Dark" by The Isley Brothers can be heard in the opening cutscene for Undress to Kill.
- Bernie Crane sings both "Golden" by Jill Scott and "Just Be Good To Me" by The SOS Band to himself in his car, as heard on a wire tap in The Lost and Damned.

Trivia[]
- Cassie's "Me & U" was also due to appear on Non-Stop-Pop FM in the original version of Grand Theft Auto V, and was later added in the enhanced version.
- In The Ballad of Gay Tony, additional Dominican NPCs were added that commonly appear in Northwood and East Holland and one can wear a long-sleeved brown sweatshirt[4] with "The Vibe" on the front and 98.8 on the back.
- The radio station's designation is totally fictitious, as FM radio stations in the United States only have an odd number (1,3,5,7 or 9) after the decimal point.
- According to the american.gxt, The Vibe apparently was a mix station at one point, meaning it would have been absent of commercials. Whether this simply was meant to be temporary or once actually planned to be a single mix remains unknown.[5]
- Footsteps In The Dark by The Isley Brothers was sampled in It Was a Good Day by Ice Cube, which can be heard on Radio Los Santos in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
