Prawn Island is a small island in northern Ocean Bay in Vice City, Florida, appearing in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
Description[]
Located between Downtown and Vice Point, the island is a combination of both residential and industrial buildings, with the InterGlobal Films studios and several nondescript offices on the south side and several lavish mansions on the north. In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, it is the turf of the Streetwannabe's (formerly known as the Sharks). The name is play on the name for a crab, prawn, and pron, the alternative name for pornography, due to InterGlobal Films' role in the pornographic film industry.
During Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Prawn Island has several beautiful villas, but by the time of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City they have been abandoned, boarded up, and taken over by the Streetwannabe's. Prawn Island was the main base of the Mendez Cartel where their mansion was located, and was later abandoned upon the death of their leaders and fallen into the hands of the Streetwannabe's.
In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the island is the only region other than Vice City Beach that is unlocked from the beginning of the game.
Influence[]
Prawn Island's design is likely inspired by Belle Isle in Miami Beach, but may also be inspired by the island municipalities of Bay Harbor Islands and North Bay Village in Miami-Dade County.

Trivia[]
- In GTA Vice City, if the player goes southeast of the InterGlobal Films lot, there is a man in the water with cement shoes.
- 'Prawn' is a homophone for 'pr0n', an intentional misspelling of 'porn' that originated in the mid-90s.[1]
- The text label for the island's name internally is "PORNI" (Porn Island), further alluding to the name's homophonic nature.
