TV questions: pick five TV shows you like (in no particular order) and answer the following questions. Don’t cheat!

1. Interview With The vampire
2. Wheel of Time
3. Sarah Connor Chronicles
4. Yellowjackets
5. The Mandalorian

Me and by goldfish brain having to scroll up to see what fandom each number is for every single question. )

+ Random icon button gave me a Star Wars icon, so that's today's fic pick for #Rec-Cember!

AU where Mando couldn't save Grogu at the Seeing Stone (Chapter 14: The Tragedy). This grabbed me beginning to end, both the POVs and the character interactions were *chef's kiss*

Luke jerks awake with a gasp, and immediately gags.

Artoo whistles a question behind him, but he can't give a better answer than the groan behind his clenched teeth. He shuts his eyes and swallows hard a few times until he's sure he isn't about to throw up in his lap.

There isn't much recorded about Force visions anymore - at least, not anywhere that Luke has looked - but he knows that what he saw wasn't a dream. Not really. Shaking, he presses a hand to his throat, running his fingertips over the unmarked skin there, where he swears he can still feel the impossible heat of blaster fire. There's no way of knowing if what he saw has already come to pass, but there's a twisting deep in his gut that tells him they're too late. He can't tell if it's the Force reaching out to him, or simply his own fears, but the cry for help that echoed across the galaxy to him had jolted him from meditation hours ago. There is every chance the child is long gone; their Mandalorian defender long dead.

But Luke, for all his faults, has never learnt to quit while he's ahead. Until he reaches Tython, until he finds the child, there's still a hope that he can't quite abandon.

+ Well I just logged off twitter. Oh scuse me, I logged off X. That will be run by AI. I hate it here. Truly.

+ Back to bumping up against my 500 open tabs limit. That's what happens when y'all start posting so many fic recs! It's been like a flash from the past this week, so many rec posts *rolls around in them*

+ Boat is docking this Friday. Since it's not going back out until Monday, I may be here until Saturday, idk. Either case: HOME. That's where the bathtub lives.

+ Now I'll just have to make sure I finish saving all my icons so they don't go poof from imgur. I believe they went after the biggest images first, since my screencaps went, then the smaller thumbnails for said screencap posts. ([community profile] capshare will be a ghost town now 🫤) First picked up the fandoms I'd iconned most at [community profile] forsquares, before attempting to save my [community profile] spankulert posts in order, to preserve comments accuracy. I only made it through three posts before my brain threw in the towel. I could lose the Xena icons and then I'd have to cry about it.

After, it'll be time to spam y'all with some master posts hehe.

Copy Image URL button when, Dreamwidth? 🙏🙏🙏

+ (there's an icon land community happening soon and 🎶I am exciiiited 🎶)

+ Finished the episodes I had of The Mandalorian. Which turns out was not all of them. *dons clown makeup*

Season three ruined its streak of joyful episodes by being shitty to droids.

+ I saw Avatar Way of the Water at the cinema, and I'm really grateful my brother invited me along. Had zero interest in seeing it, but it was so beautiful! Such a tranquil experience seeing it on the big screen, highly recommended.

+ Tried three episodes of That 90s Show. Hard pass. Very little chemistry with the kids, lackluster writing, and rapey vibes (still not funny when a lady is doing it, my dudes). It was nice to see Kitty and Red again though.

+ Found a BluRay torrent for The Sarah Connor Chronicles, dl that now. For some reason the DVD I have is hot garbage in the quality department. Like, disgusting quality. But hey, some of you were keen to do a rewatch, yes? :D

+ Back to work on Monday, so desperately trying to unfuck my apartment before I go. I've made slight progress! Unfortunately someone new moved in, and filled up both the garbage and cardboard containers, so I'll have to stack some cardboard until I get home, but fingers crossed it won't look like a complete depression nest when I come home. I wanna hop straight into my (hopefully arrived by then) PSVR2 guilt free in a tidy space!

Currently treating myself to another Festivids vid between chores. Was hoping to have a recs list up before reveals, but it's at six today, so looking doubtful. My goodness there are some bangers this year though! I have burst out laughing, I have clutched my chest, I have cried, and I have definitely made plans to download some vids, oh yesss.

[personal profile] lirazel asked which fandom has inspired the most fanworks from you. I suspected Supernatural, and I was right. What I didn't suspect, was that the Sarah Connor Chronicles was just four tag usages behind!! Is this a sign? Should I finally rewatch the show and give it some proper love? Maybe match it up with the picspam goal I completely failed at this year?

Anyways, I got to looking at the icons. And now I'm sharing.

Because you know what? I made some BANGIN tscc icons. Accidental icon retrospective. )

* Season 3 of The Americans has been unrelenting. Shame I left for work before I could snag the finale, now I'll have to wait to find out how things turn out. But yes, unrelenting; it really doesn't flinch. The characters are all very complex and the show is so good at sitting with certain situations, letting bodylanguage do the storytelling.

* A friend of mine who tends to enjoy what I enjoy, and loved/loathed exactly what I loved/loathed in said show, told me that New Girl does in fact bounce back in season 4. This could end badly for me. Or it could be good? I do know Coach is back! I need more cheerful fluffy bouncy stuffs... Btw I haven't heard peep nor squeak about the latest season of Community. Is it doing that poorly? Should I just know better by now and steer clear? Not like the last season did that much for me.

* Re-uploaded what I could find of my SCC wallpapers I made for [community profile] ladiesbigbang during its first round. Unfortunately most of the size-variations are gone :/ I couldn't resist smacking one on my deskop tho. SARAH CONNORRRR ♥_♥

* Actually started crafting various things in Project Zomboid. After fracturing my leg and moving at a snail's pace, I decided to stay put at a motel I found. It's still very open and I have zero defenses, but I discovered that I can forage in the woods across the road, and there are already some handy neighborhood fences up that I could connect walls with after I'm done with my first fortification. Now if I could only find a damn axe and a saw, aka the thing that always dooms me.

* OK so March came on pretty sudden, huh? Probably half due to me being down the funk hole last month. I just barely managed to finish a couple of books by February's end, and I didn't consume much media either. Dropped Black Mirror right out the gate, I was just thoroughly annoyed throughout the entire episode. Saw the first three episodes of Utopia, which could have used waaaay less torture scenes(the opening sequence made the point perfectly clear, no need to keep returning to it to try and earn the Dark Show merit badge or whatever the fuck), but I shall continue to watch for Curtis from Misfits(the reason I tuned in), Conspiracy Theory Guy, and (we are all very surprised by this) Creepy Pragmatic Chick. My Mad Fat Diary was also good, the three episodes I tried, so I'll give the rest of the season a go. The teenagers are all written realistically, and all the 90s references are cracking me up. I just wish it focused less on sex, but ain't that always the way it goes. [livejournal.com profile] erzsebet has a lovely post of icons here btw.

I also rewatched all of the Sarah Connor Chronicles Riley-eps for vidding reasons. Still annoying to me that they probably didn't let the actress in on what was up from the beginning, since some of her reactions early on hits me as off/wrong, but oh gosh did Riley ever get the rawest deal on the show. A damn shame indeed.

* Got my hands on the last four issues of Saga and OMG HOW GOOD IS THIS COMIC :D I liked it after the first TPB, but now I have love, lots and lots of love. If you like found families, antagonists that are fleshed out, witty dialog, gorgeous art, lots of (fully dressed for the most part) lady characters, a badass kitty - and oh, this all takes place IN SPACE - Saga is the comic for you.

* Upped my icon limit to 400. Inevitable really. Thinking I'll need a support group at some point.

* Brain needs to stop coughing up vid ideas for Lex Luthor and Critters. Not to mention I have seven Battlestar Galactica ideas, except all it says behind every one of them is CYLONS/cylonssss/some variance on that theme.

...aaand I just had another idea. *headdesk*

* Posted some of my icons as well. Not the challenge ones I've been working on, but the tag alongs that get created during the process. Figured I'd get them out now instead of being stuck coding a monster post later on.

UGH lost my previous entry. It was nearly all typed up. Stupid Firefox, updated my ass. It took me four days to write too; back to being avoidant, where everything seems like a chore and I'm completely lacking the emotional energy and focus to deal with it. And I really need to get going on ordering Christmas gifts for my brothers, to make sure they get to me in time. Blech. I'm usually so much better with this.

I do already have a gorgeous Paper Blanks journal I plan to gift to a friend of mine, and my parents are getting a gift certificate to go out and have a fancy meal together, plus I did order a few graphic novels for my brother a while back alongside the MAD anthology thing that came out(trying to at least get something surprising in there, just hope he actually likes it). The plan is also to make something homemade, maybe lotion again or some bodyscrub. I've also been hoarding cake tins as they've been emptied out, so I might have a baking dash as well. All things depending on when I get home, of course.

On December 1st we docked briefly to pick up some scientists, which meant we also had a chance to pick up decorations. )

Back on the subject of gifts, I know I'll already be getting Alison Bechdel's "Are You My Mother?", with plenty more littering my wishlist. I found a few great suggestion lists if you'd like to give graphic novels a go, or are looking for gift ideas. Not as many as I had yesterday, but that's what happens *stupid firefox update bs grumble grumble*

Is it just me, or has New Girl been nothing short of DELIGHTFUL this season? I cannot get enough of girls and guys high-fiving one another because of awesome dates, or of Nick's ladyscreams tbh. Winston and fancy drinks, OTP forever.

The Good Wife apparently needs to re-learn their lesson: Do not separate Kalinda from the rest. The dynamic with Nick is very interesting to watch, but when it leaves her isolated, the show suffers. The only relationship that's been given the attention it deserves this season is Will and Diane. It's also been good to see Eli have something to actually do again, and would you look at that, I am actually caring about Peter's storyline! The trustee has been fabulous, I kind of love him. But still, needs more Kalinda with everyone else. And more Cary period.

ALSO, "Your voice on that phone, was not work." \o/

Dexter has been good in the Dexter And His Ladies department, plus they backtracked on last season's terrible LaGuerta The Antagonistic Bitchmonster and gave me back the one I enjoy, so thanks for that. spoilers )

One thing I love about getting home is access to new music. Especially handy now, since I've been culling my music library. Here's to finding a new favorite or two!

Why don't you enjoy some Sigur Rós :)

it doesn’t matter what I say

the only thing that matters is how you feel

understanding that the words are irrelevant is of great importance

what feelings do you have

I also have the four latest issues of Angel & Faith and the last two of Batwoman to catch up on, eee! Giving Alabaster: Wolves a shot as well, since I really dug the first issue(this whole buying comics directly from the iPad is so very awesome). Just check out the cover art, om nom nom. And there are ladies, and they are clothed and competent thank you.

Now I should get back to packing and sorting through my childhood stuff *pokes giant pile*

Clearing out my icon folder before dashing off to my tropical paradise for a month.

The Borgias, Hit & Miss, and Sarah Connor Chronicles. The usual place.

Some of them made for [livejournal.com profile] theiconquest, which is the most awesome of places if your icon muse needs a boot to the behind. It's like questing! Except with less cumbersome armors and sleeping on the ground. Win win :D

A few days ago I put my tiny Leverage ficlet up on ff.net, and a lot of people have been commenting and favoriting it. So if you have any Leverage stuff about, they're clearly in dire need, poor things.

Also, there's this awesome show NOBODY TOLD ME ABOUT. That has me absolutely cracking up(except for the first ep. that was meh). You should all watch it! It's called COW MURDERERS! Bob's Burgers. Dooo ittttt.

* Kind of behind on the washing down, but ever day has been so damn hot I breaka sweat just by moving my pinky :/ Also fishery's a bit slow, so the crew's up and about at all times which makes me take refuge in the cabin. Today's the day I get going though! mostly because I have to.

* Small Avengers rec post in the works, but it is taking its sweet time. Also, probably just full of fandom faves but who knows. At this size, there could be any number of faves, so maybe someone did miss one or two.

* Still haven't booked all my tickets or my room at the retreat for the Summer; due to the on board connection blocking any kind of flash, I can't access my online bank to make the payments. I'll be home in five days though, so hopefully the airline tickets won't have hiked up in prices. Oh, and one of the hotels I was going to stay at actually had a flash sale when I went to book, so I got it for one third the price woot woot! Ended up extending my stay from a week to twelve days. I am so looking forward to that view, I don't care if it rains every single day, it will still be beautiful and magical and everything good. The place also has a gym, a gigantic pool, and yoga classes three times daily. \o/

* [personal profile] moonvoice just pointed me towards Le Animalé, where you can order small animal figurines/totems. And OH MY GOD I WANT ALL HER DOODLES. ALL OF THEM.

Episode twelve and thirteen of The Good Wife? FLAWLESS. A lot of the more comical episodes on the show has made me cringe in the past, but Alienation of Affection suffered from none of that. )

And so I repeat: FLAWLESS. Two more weeks before I get the next episode. Certainly something to look forward to :D

Day 2: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

Lilah presses her ear against the door to Wesley’s office. It’s supposed to be soundproof, but it’s not, not to her.

"Try to push reality out of your mind," Wesley is saying, and he sounds so far away. "Focus on the other memories. They were created for a reason."

"To hide from the truth?" Illyria asks with that scuffling, short voice of hers. It’s a her now. There is no denying that.

The chair creaks. "To endure it," he says.

“Where are you from, John Connor?”

“Here. I’m from here. I’m always from here.” John gives up and lets his eyes slide shut, just for a moment. His voice is a whisper but it’s angry and that’s worth the effort. “Now ask the right question.”

He can hear Derek stand, “You saved my brother’s life.”

John doesn’t say, “I took it first.” He doesn’t say, “I might need it later.” He doesn’t say anything at all.

(there's always my rec tag)

Oh, btw, I know there's an Illyria roadtrip fic thingy out there somewhere. Had the link on my old laptop, but now it is gooone. *sniffles* Actually, rec me ALL THE ILLYRIA.

And I think I'm going to have to cut myself off from my circle until I've finished my Yuletide reading. Haven't move so much as an inch forward since my first rec post, for shame. I'm not going to stand for a repeat of last year, where I found open tabs of fandom categories hiding out in my Giant Tab Forest of Doom™ in November. Yes, thinking I'll have to do that. * Finally got around to reading Wanted, the comic book they based the movie on, and the question I'm left with is why the hell did they pay for the rights to that comic? The story IS NOTHING LIKE THE MOVIE. AT ALL. His girlfriend treats him like crap, his boss treats him like crap, he shoots the wings off a fly and after that you don't recognize a single thing. I don't think the comic has a large cult following or anything, and even if it did, by changing so much they would have been guaranteed to piss said fanbase of and hey look, now you've got a giant boycott going.

Only explanation I can find is that Hollywood needs to stop DOING ALL THE DRUGS.

* Norway lost against Denmark in their qualifier for the European Championships last night. Today Denmark's papers read, "Take that, mountain losers." Not working out exactly like I planned, but hey, at least I'm getting something done. And I re-discovered the lamp I was going to hang in the ceiling! So now I have that one plus three spots I bought yesterday to get up after I return from Roskilde.

Yup, I leave tomorrow morning \o/ A week of fun, concerts, good food, great people - and yes, a spot of rain - here I come!

Thinking the Internet/computer hiatus will start up after I return, but I'll check in first and let you all know how it turned out. Oh, and the reason I'm a bit behind schedule is because I foolishly begun watching Game of Thrones, AND I AM NOW ALL FINISHED. AND IN LOVE. This is going to be a loooong wait.

Hey, have some vid recs to keep you busy. )

And to keep from being super redundant when I come home, have my linkspam stuffs as well:

Women and Fantasy by [livejournal.com profile] la_marquise_de_.
I've definitely lost count of the number of times excellent fantasy novels are re-labelled sf or slipstream or anything so that those who like them but claim to disdain fantasy can feel safe. I seem to see phrases on the lines of 'all those fantasy-writer women' used all too regularly as a put-down of both my genre and my sex. Then there's the fantasy equivalent of that hoary old chestnut 'literary writer writes sf novel and gets plaudits for something done in the genre 40 years earlier,' when an established (and nearly always male) sf writer writes a fantasy. 'That'll show 'em', comes the cry (and usually the 'them' are characterised as probably female, probably bad, probably unaware of the possibilities of our genre). And out comes yet another book that, like those literary ones, doesn't know enough to know the cliches. Capped off with a long list of excellent female sci-fi writers you might want to check out.

Why the Best Kids Books Are Written in Blood.
When some cultural critics fret about the “ever-more-appalling” YA books, they aren’t trying to protect African-American teens forced to walk through metal detectors on their way into school. Or Mexican-American teens enduring the culturally schizophrenic life of being American citizens and the children of illegal immigrants. Or Native American teens growing up on Third World reservations. Or poor white kids trying to survive the meth-hazed trailer parks. They aren’t trying to protect the poor from poverty. Or victims from rapists. No, they are simply trying to protect their privileged notions of what literature is and should be. They are trying to protect privileged children. Or the seemingly privileged.

Panel notes for Fringe (and a bit on Sci-Fi on TV) by [livejournal.com profile] sophy.
Panel writeup on Fringe: How Is Olivia Dunham So Awesome?

Les Contes des Fées: The Literary Fairy Tales of France.
It is interesting to note that these canonized writers are all men, since this is a reversal from the oral storytelling tradition, historically dominated by women. Indeed, Straparola, Basile, Perrault, and even the Brothers Grimm made no secret of the fact that their source material came largely or entirely from women storytellers. Yet we are left with the impression that women dropped out of the history of fairy tales once they became a literary form, existing only in the background as an anonymous old peasant called Mother Goose.

A) Posted a simple icon tutorial. Funny enough, it's a Mitchell icon. I couldn't resist his perfect omg face :p

B) So guess who thought season 3 of Being Human had only seven episodes? The facepalm, let me show you it. I am still so very ready for Mitchell to bite it, and by 'bite it' I mean die horribly. )

C) Wrote this for the one sentence fic challenge at [livejournal.com profile] scifiland before remembering that movies and crossovers don't go with voting challenges. Et voilá:

If Eames hadn't been too preoccupied mulling over what important detail his forge of the target's seemingly uncomplicated daughter was lacking while running away from a mob of extremely determined projections, he might have wondered why they inexplicably converged on Arthur mere seconds after entering Sarah Connor's subconscious.

D) Just finished reading Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong by James W. Loewen, a book I'd highly recommend to everyone. i knew the history books in school shirked around a lot of issues and is loaded with Eurocentrism, but I didn't realize it was to such an extreme degree, and that it sweeps very recent events under the rug as well.

So that's coming along nicely at least, unlike last year. And Goodreads is helping me rid my Read Later list of all the interesting books I've bookmarked, since one of my resolutions this year is to not buy any fiction books it keeps building and fast. Not that it's helping much; won't clear out any of my unread books when I keep reading on my iPhone. Oh well, I am reading one paper book on the side at least. Baby steps and all that.

[personal profile] scintilla10, [personal profile] sublunarymagic, [personal profile] wordsatourbacks, [livejournal.com profile] secret_hotel and [livejournal.com profile] ozmissage wanted the lovely ladies from Parks & Recreation and Community, plus [personal profile] chaila wanted SCC/Fringe(as she's so generously supplied me with here and here. Most awesome crossover ever, y/y?) and [personal profile] jyorraku wanted SCC/Nikita.

Hope you gals don't mind me smooshing you all together like this. Your requests all overlapped, gathering them gives you more of a shot actually finding something you like ;)

...like this adorable depute director barbie. )

A) Will be trying out new layouts(on lj) later tonight, so don't worry if things look wonky when you stop by. I am done with this layout making icons and graphics look blurry. grrr.

B) Finally got my 2011 Scrapbook close to what I wanted. Last year's was pretty spartan, but I found I enjoyed keeping track of certain things over the year. This time around it's almost the double of that, plus more graphics heavy. Pilfering [livejournal.com profile] scrapbook_2010 turned out a lot of good ideas. You all should do one, it's fun!

C) Community fandom seriously needs to stop making all those awesome icons. My collection just keeps building and I WANT TO USE THEM ALL. The last two Community episodes in themselves weren't at their top game though, except they gave me Abed as a dungeon master/horny maiden. And he was thinking of Troy when he made the well-endowed character ♥

D) Damn Windows Live update, and double-damn it for always waiting several hours after I've come home so it can ambush my laptop after I've gone to bed, costing me several hours of valuable download time. *glare*

E) 2011 looks to be the year I return to watching movies and reading books. Against last year's meager 6 books read, I've read four so far this year, and against last year's 22 movies watched(plus 11 I'd seen before and a ridiculous amount of watching scenes from Scott Pilgrim over and over), I'm already up to 13 this year(plus three aborted attempts, and ahem, five viewings of Black Swan). It's taken its toll on fic reading though, since I haven't read much of anything since Yuletide. Hah I even have several categories from Yuletide I still want to go through.

F) [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon, the fourteen day celebration of female characters, is still going strong. A lot of fics, vids, recs, meta and picspams have gone up already. I'm actually toying with the idea of putting up a Bolivia comment-fic-a-thon, since I'm very unhappy with how Fringe skated past her experiences once she crossed over. We never got to see her interact with Olivia's sister and niece, not even on the phone. We didn't even get her saving and interacting with victims on this side. I just feel they overlooked giving her more story so she'll be easier to pass off as the villain and leave behind. I don't want easy!

G) Tonight I get to see Black Swan at the cinema, hopefully with K. It never stopped drawing me in when I watched it on the laptop. Can't wait to watch it on the big screen. For now I'm content with finally having the soundtrack in my possession; Mansell always knows how to bring the atmosphere.

H) And you know that pair of pants I bought last time I was home? Well, I got them on. Take that, nonbelievers! Still too tight for me to wanna wear them, but I'm counting on that not being an issue in a month's time when the next trip ends. Go me :D

Oh, and I made moar icons. No worries, this is the last of the flood from me(unless [profile] scifiland or [community profile] legendland throws yet another challenge my way. It's out of my hands, guys!), since I'll be working on the wallpapers for [profile] helpbrazil2011. They always take a buttload of time. Was also planning a Favorite Icons of 2010 post, but now we're in February already. Dammit, time, stop being in such a hurry. *fist*

The rest here and here :)
