A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 3
I. Objectives: At the end of a 60- minute lesson, 80% of the 3-1 students are expected to:
1. identify the basic needs of human, animals and plants
2. explain how living things depends on the environment to meet their basic needs
3. recognize that there is a need to protect and conserve the environment
II. Subject Matter: Basic needs of human, animals and plants
Reference:
Value focus: All forms of life are equally important
Concept: All living things depend on their environment to supply them with what they need
including food, water and shelter. Living organisms have basic needs. Plants need air, water,
nutrients, sunlight and space to grow. Animals need air, water, food and shelter. Living organisms
depends on each other and on their environment or habitat to meet their needs for survival, we call
this interdependence.
III. Materials: Pictures of living things and their environment
IV. Procedure
Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Strategies/ Approaches used
I.
A. Preliminary Activity
1. Review
Class our topic
yesterday was about
reproduction among
humans, animals and
plants and certain
observable characteristics
that are passed from
parents to offspring.
2. Motivation
Class I have here some
pictures on the board.
What do you see in the
pictures?
Student A: sunlight
Student B: water
3. Presentation
What is our topic?
Student C: shelter
II. Developmental Phase
1) Activity
Now I will group you
into 3 and you are free to
choose a leader from the
group. I have here some
pictures of example of Student D: food

you will pic one.
Student E: air
Student F: clothes

reporter of the group will
explain why you consider
them as basic needs and
why are they important.
Are you ready, Group 1?

Group 1:
We picked the Sampaguita plant.
Its basic needs are water, heat

Group 2:
We picked a boy, his basic needs
are food, water, house and
clothes. The food helps to avoid
the boy from starving so he
won’t get sick and die. The
water helps him from feeling
thirsty and avoid stomach ache

All living things depends

supply them with what
they need. Many living
things interact with other
organisms in their
environment. In fact they
need other organisms to
survive. Example, living
things make their own
food mist eat other
organisms for food.
Organisms meet these
needs differently
depending on their
environment. For
example, fish live in the
water or ocean, in order
to meet their needs like
water, food and shelter. We picked a cat. It's basic needs

house. The shelter also keeps the
cat safe from bad animals and
weather. The basic needs of the
cat are important for she can live
long and stay healthy.
What would happen if
there is no more water to
drink? If no more plants
around us?
What would happen to
humans, animals and
plants if our surroundings
cannot meet their needs?

c. Application In food, plants need to produce

it is our basic needs, through hunting. Humans and
stand if it is not. animals need food to obtain
energy which they will be
needing in their everyday
activities. Humans, animals and
plants all need air to breath.
However, for plants they don’t
just need air to breath but also in
making their food. Lastly, plants
root absorb water because it is
needed in producing its own
food while animals and humans
needs water to clean their selves,
quench thirst and also, as an
ingredients in food making.
If there would be no water all
living things can become thirsty,
become weak and will die, we
know that water is the source of
life and if there is no more plants
around us we can’t get enough
fresh air and food to eat.
They will encounter difficulties

Student 1: I learned that all
living things have basic needs.
Student 2: All living things
depend on their environment to
satisfy their needs.
Student 3: It’s Important to meet
the needs in order to live.

VI. Assignment:
Give example on how you can protect and conserve your environment. Enumerate at least 5 example.
Explain why it’s important to protect our environment
