It would be great if one could disable a subscription without removing it. This is a feature request.

A disabled subscription should differ from a normal subscription in the following ways:

  • It is displayed differently in the subscription list (e.g. grayed, or in a separate section below the normal subscriptions)
  • Its RSS/Atom feed is not updated
  • It can be enabled again

In all other aspects, a disabled subscription should behave identically to normal subscriptions, that it:

  • Already downloaded episodes are kept and can still be played.
  • Non-downloaded episodes are still shown, are downloadable, and then playable.
  • Disabled subscriptions are still part of an OPML export.

Rationales:

  • For some podcasts one would like to listen to a few episodes, but doesn't want them to regularily fill up the "New Episodes" section.
  • Adding new podcasts is a lot more work than deleting them. So when in doubt, one would rather disable than remove a subscription.
    • This is especially true for the German podcast world, where the podcast directories aren't nearly as complete as one would like them to, so adding new podcasts happens mostly by URL or website link, which is cumbersome.
  • Sometimes RSS/Atom feeds are broken, or were only one-off feeds in the first place, while the media files are still downloadable from some CDN.

This is a duplicate of #2489. In the issue, you can also find some workarounds (disabling feed updates, renaming).
