This is conceived as an informal and spontaneous annex to my more extensive blog, Grand Strategy: The View from Oregon.

More than you needed (or wanted) to know:

● I discovered Tumblr by way of following a link back from my other blog.

● On the spur of the moment I decided to start a second blog to accommodate my less fully formed ideas.

● Since starting a blog on Tumblr, I have found that most everyone on here is in their 20s, so if you’re reading this I’m probably old enough to be your father (notwithstanding the fact that I have no children).

● I am an autodidact philosopher with widely ranging interests, but given my philosophical disposition my interest remains stubbornly abstract and theoretical.

● The few people who know me personally call me “Nick.”

● I live in Oregon on the Columbia River.

● You can write to me directly at john.n.nielsen at gmail dot com

Pet Peeves:

● Writers who talk or write about “writer’s block.” If you have nothing to say, please, spare us all and don’t bother to make the effort to write.

● People who misinterpret or over-interpret Kardashev. If you haven’t read Kardashev’s papers, pleased don’t talk about or write about Kardashev civilization types.

● People who believe their own bullshit.

● Deluded individuals who believe that they possess power when in fact they do not (see the immediately above).

● Films that depict the destruction of archaeological sites.
