Season 8 of the American comedy series Frasier aired on the NBC television network.

Summary[]

Picking up where the previous season ended, Niles and Daphne face the music of their jilted lovers, neither of whom handle the news of their newfound love well. Donny sues both Daphne and Frasier while Mel makes Niles partake in a charade of a happy marriage for the sake of appearances. Eventually, however, the lawsuit is dropped while Niles defiantly puts an end to Mel’s charade in decisive fashion.

Shortly after this, Daphne gains considerable weight, which everyone seems to notice except for Niles until it is too late. Eventually, Daphne attends a health spa to cope with the problem and to lose the weight. Once her figure is restored several weeks later, Daphne and Niles begin to find compatibility with each other as a couple.

Near the end of the season, Frasier becomes involved with Claire French, a friend of his former partner Lana. However, this comes with a catch: Lana agrees to let Frasier go out with Claire if he agrees to tutor her son, Kirby, in US History. Frasier agrees to do this but comes up with a condition of his own for Kirby: If Kirby studies hard, he will convince Roz to accompany Kirby to his high school prom.

In other events, Martin attends the parole hearing of the man that shot him and left him disabled, Roz dates a former mentor of Frasier, Niles makes a half-court shot while at a Sonics game, and the Cranes take a family vacation to Belize.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only season in which Dan Butler does not appear.
  • Jane Leeves does not appear in every episode this season due to her real-life pregnancy with daughter Isabella. However, she is still credited for the five episodes in which she is absent. To explain this, the writers incorporated her pregnancy into shows as weight gain by Daphne due to stress from her relationship with Niles
  • This is the last completed season in which David Angell is involved with production of the show before his death on September 11, 2001.
