Admins using Windows Server Update Services up in arms as Microsoft deprecates feature

From the States

Not a surprise

Microsoft hasn't added any features to WSUS in *years*. Azure Patch Manager is getting all the juicy enhancements. Nobody should have been caught off-guard by this. Even then, it will be quite a few years before WSUS is gone, since they are supporting it in Windows Server 2025.

Incredibly sleazy.

Do the people at the top have a conscience at all? As my long-dead grandmother would say, "They'd take the pennies off a dead man's eyes."

Microsoft confirms spike in NTLM authentication traffic after Windows Server patch

From the States

Yes, NTLMv1 is old and should be disabled, but...

...NTLMv2 is still widely used. For a large corporation, I assume it would take years to eliminate all software and user activity that uses NTLM in some way.

SMB signing is not a free transaction. It does require CPU cycles and for systems that are already constrained, it's a non-starter.

Or else he was trying to throw the dogs off the track.

He could have done that to make it look like it wasn't him or to see if others had figured it out.

Whatever the case, one hopes if he is truly innocent, he is found not guilty and vice-versa.

Amazon Web Services also affected.

Windows 10 pain: Reg man has 75 per cent upgrade failure rate

Microsoft support will get buried tonight...

...by all the people who super-procrastinated on the upgrade offer.

I can't say I'm surprised if a home-grown system can't be upgraded. If it's an older system, Microsoft is still supporting Windows 7 with security updates through the end of 2019.

Yes, but they also borked App-V to remove them from suspicion.

What irks me about the Microsoft KB article is *nowhere* does it say what type of NICs get borked. We had to wait until VMware made a posting to find out it was VMXNET3 (we still use E1000 a lot).
