Microsoft veteran ditches Team Tabs, blaming storage trauma of yesteryear

ssssssssssssssssssssss

Re: As someone pointed out to me a while ago

This is indeed the answer and why tabs should be used, or part of the reason. Visual impairment can also mean having to use huge fonts - space indent means the far too much horizontal scrolling, vs a smaller tab indent size.

Amusingly devs seem to be the most vocal when it comes to display overrides, like dark mode, font size/choice etc, yet when it comes to formatting code for viewing their way is best. Use tabs for accessibility or spaces if you’re the only one ever to look at your code.

Can't they just be brave and remove the port altogether?

I'm assuming with the yodel website that when you try to go to a page it's delivered three days later to the someone else's browser?

Indeed. After being burned with a G3, LG are on my "don't touch with a bargepole" list.

Re: Nail on the head

In my opinion unless you're replacing a desktop-replacement laptop (and actually use it as such, rather than as a status symbol) then a SP3 or SP4 is not your target. It's the non-pro Surface 3. It's good enough for *most* tasks, and at £550 (for the higher memory & storage and pen) is a laptop replacement price.

That's easy:

* You don't own the car but rent transport facilities. (Like city car clubs.)

* The cars have cameras inside.

* If a car arrives for you and it's unacceptably untidy, you report it, it goes away to get cleaned and you get another.

* The previous user gets charged for the excessive cleaning, through their normal account - and the cameras provide evidence.

I think the tipping point for self-driving cars is not going to be when *people* accept them but when *insurance companies* accept them: If the *at-fault* accident rate of self-driving cars is 5% (an example %, a lot higher than Google car accident rates) of human drivers, then self-driving car owners are going to expect either a/ a massive discount or b/ manual driver insurance to rise a lot.

Once that happens then the average car owner will have a no-brainer decision - dirt cheap or sky high insurance.

Google are entering the streaming market in 2015? I've been paying £7 a month for at least a year for their streaming Play Music. And don't Apple already have something similar? Not sure their one is available in the UK though.

White?

Really interested in this, although the white version they were showing off on the website looked better, especially with the e-ink display. (Yes, the white v1 version is still there.)

If it can be rooted (specifically for Greenify) I'm seriously tempted.

Boxing clever? Amazon Fire TV is SO CLOSE to being excellent

Indeed, and it'll come out when relations come to visit (Doodlecast being the game of choice).

I have a Chromecast sitting in a drawer, as attempting to demo it to both my flatmates (non technical) highlighted the fact they would *never* use it. The phone remote control aspect was far too geeky.

The Fire tv on the other hand was received with joy. Pick up the simple remote, up down left right and select. Pick a film or tv episode, done. The BBC iPlayer app is great as our tv is not "smart", plus our signal reception is spotty, so no guarantee the dvr will work for a whole episode.

The cheap PS3 route was an option, (and still is, as I like the occasional game) but I wanted something with as few barriers as possible to content. The Fire tv does that just now.
