Microsoft really does not want Windows 11 running on ancient PCs

I am proud to have been called a boffin by people I respect - RAF personnel operating the 'plane.

MX Linux 21.2: Middleweight Debian-based distro is well worth a look

David1

Excellent Review

I recommend you to explore the MX tools more thoroughly: they are amazingly useful.

My personal favourite allows you to easily create a portable, persistent clone of your

own tweaked MX operating system on a USB stick: this works when plugged into almost

any computer capable of booting from USB. And it does not touch the machine's native

system unless you want it to.

Forgive them.

So they had a bug in their software: bad but not deliberate fraud.

I will continue to use them because they work well for me.

Just realized it is not Wikipedia - sorry.

There are many others which are not worse. Wikipedia lists lots of them.

My experience is that POTS outages are rare, but internet outages are common.

Does anybody have any (non-anecdotal) data about outages?

Fake news?

Skype 7 is still working here today on W7, albeit with popups asking me to update.

Of course I just click the "not now" button.

Still using Skype? Good news! After HOURS of meetings, Microsoft reckons it knows when you're Not Active

LO's predecessor Star Office/OpenOffice did include an email client until about the turn of the century.

Seamonkey also has an email client (as well as a WYSIWYG web page writer) and IMO is preferable to FF+TB. Shame about the silly name Seamonkey.

Linux lads lambast sorry state of Skype service

David1

What problem?

Can anybody tell me WTF the complaint is about?

I have checked today, and I find that Skype works fine between Linux and MSWindows, for video calls and text both ways.

Steelie Neelie: Crack down on wicked ISPs so we can Skype

David1

Re: THREE are the only provider that do not block SKYPE in my area ...

No, just a user of their dongle, mobile phone service and wired broadband. As a matter of fact I am very cross with them for selling out their wired broadband to Murdoch. However I have successfully used Skype with the dongle, and have found their support services are pretty good.

Sounds as if you were misled by one of their in-store people.

David1

Re: THREE are the only provider that do not block SKYPE in my area ...

You should really try an O2 dongle before publicly condemning it.

David1

Re: THREE are the only provider that do not block SKYPE in my area ...

Just spoke to an "o2 guru": he says I CAN use Skype with my o2 dongle on a laptop.

Apple must apologise for its surly apology on its website on Saturday

David1

Just the UK version?

Since the judgement is supposed to have force throughout the EU, why does the "apology" appear on the UK homepage only (not on German/French/Irish/Dutch etc)?

I wonder whether the judges are happy with Apple's persistent truculent behaviour.
