Microsoft 365 pauses Copilot creep after admins cry foul

MJI

10 worked fine, 11 creaking under the load

My work PC downgraded last year from 10 to 11, and as time goes on gets slower and slower.

Adds features I do not use, hogging RAM and CPU cycles.

Some I can turn off, or taskkill.

Yet MS word now no longer saves without ai.exe running.

Adds more and more junk, so I struggle to run what I need.

Now feels slower than a Q8300 with 4GB RAM running Windows 7, in fact compile speeds are no better.

More cores, more speed, slower.

The same compiler however is rapid under WINE on my Linux box.

MJI

Re: It's a fleet, not one car

The Maestro was actually a pretty good car, nicer than the equivalent Fords.

A previous job had various pool cars. I managed to kill one, it had a terrible gear box, and terrible indicators, a Ford of some sort.

I think I blew the clutch or gearbox as it would NOT do 1-2 but 1-4, so I just abused it.

My car at the time had superb gearchange and handling, and was an old Rootes based hatch.

Best pool car though was an Astra van.

Former UK prime minister Sunak becomes human Clippy for Microsoft, Anthropic

MJI

Major was OK I thought, Blair untrustable - did not like at all, Brown not really PM material - but a human.

Cameron a fool with referendums, May, could not read, Johnson an idiot and borderline criminal, Truss a lunatic.

So Sunak was not too bad compared to the previous bunch, and was definitely the best post Cameron.

"Of course the right-leaning centrists are now voting Labour or Lib Dem because the Overton Window has moved wholesale to the right, and anyone who actually leans left is looking at the Greens (who, amazingly, had the most competent manifesto at the last GE - proposed to engage in infrastructure renewal and investment, whilst working to insulate the UK from global energy/gas price fluctuations!)."

I find it is more likely to be Lib Dem as Labour are too authortarian. Actually locally, a lot have gone Green.

Ex Conservative Centrists are also more likely to be pro EU, as I said what is the difference between Sunak and Starmer, both are similar placed about EU. Well it wound up a Labour supporter!

I find ads difficult

Popups are very annoying, moving ones terrible and distracting, noisy ones infuriating.

Banner ads are fine and in the right place I welcome them.

Why?

In the right place, lets say a forum about a certain device, a new accessory appears, an advert is shown, you would investigate and possibly buy. This is like magazine adverts, directed and interesting.

But too many other ads are fraudulent. Reporting is useless, so block them/
