AI to power the corporate Windows 11 refresh? Nobody's buying that
Exactly, most old kit will just work and run. Its like the old days where progression from processor to processor made a noticable difference, or you could go from 2/4MB RAM upto 4/8MB
Most old kit I had recently, replace the spinner with an SSD and off it goes, a new lease of life.
And lets not forget the rebuild every so often to get rid of bloat.
An old company I worked for, as we pulled older servers out, if they were not reused they went into the "spares" pile for older servers that had no support for.
admittedly they were old days and less hacks and threats were around due to initially, none, then limited internet access

Virgin is 10
Our virgin is a 10 character password, which annoys the misses as the "standard" for things like this is 11. Try adding that 11th character when typing in the password and it it will no match. Not tried recently to see if their password reet can now take more than 10 characters or not

Social Media ?!
My misses seems to spend most of her phone time in Facebook, still.
Recently I woke up and she was already awake and on her phone. asked "anyhing happen overnight ?" to which I got "No, nothing". I rolled over, grabbed my phone and the main headline was "Trump assination attempt"
still, it seems the Beeb use X for most of their sources of news these days and there is naff all local in any of the new reports and a couple of sites that used to have "local" news have now stopped or just gone bust

Squeezebox / sonos
The former sold themselves out to Logitech who killed the product, but the server is open source and still maintained.
I recall reading Sonos suddenly stopped supporting some of their speakers and bricking them
We now have just a few squeezeboxes, but more Alexa's. At the cost of the later I am not worried if they suddenly stop working.
Not so worried about the squeeze boxes now either as they have had a good run. But what happened to both does make me wary of the next quality sounds system I get

Re: Pre-owned
Debating that. I like mint, I can get a couple of routines to give me OneDrive, but no sky sports.
ChomeOS (many videos on how to get ChromeOS and not FLEX installed so you get play), works and so does Sky. Then you get a limitation on Android OneDrive - again another app can resolve.
ChromeOS fle management is a bit naff.
I could do a mix. Mint on most with the basic apps, and ChromeOS where needed, but having a standard interface on all machines is appealing when SWMBO is using them.
I will test the water with a test laptop over the next little while and wait until W10 is dead.
Now you will stuggle to buy a non "smart" TV. Alas, the 2 I have had in the past a no longer smart. One is so out of date that it would be a risk to use, the other, seems the manufacturer used such a shit processor that many of the app developers started to pull their apps from it.

Not worth it
All I get a taskbar that is now oddly worse than before. More telemetry, I can now long switch quickly between users as M$ have their latest marketing slogan there, trying to force you into using an M$ account and not local. Thats just what I see day to day.
Will move over to a for of Linux OS at some stage when W10 stops getting updates (I have now found and used a OneDrive tool and a separate GUI, but it works - and that is critical in this house)
I may need to get a chromebook to get Sky Sports running, but that is now the only bug bear (did not work on Waydroid, WINE - I may have another look at ChomeOS Flex and the "hack" to get Play Store installed - but boy, that is a faff)

Why make the scroll bar auto hide ? And even worse, shite like Teams cannot change the width as it has its own controls.
I also want the notification area on all screens and not just one - why, after all these years ? The taskbar is on all screens as is the clock.
