[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese perafuso (“spindle whorl?”) (13th century, Alfonso X the Wise). Uncertain. Perhaps from par (“pair”) + fuso (“spindle”) or from pedra (“stone”) + fuso (“spindle”).
