Japanese retro games

[edit]

Hi there, thanks for putting all this work into games like Metal Jacket, Cosmic Race, and SteamGear Mash. :) BOZ (talk) 16:16, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! Sceeegt (talk) 17:11, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have anything more that you could add to Yū Yū Hakusho (1994 video game)? BOZ (talk) 15:26, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've done the best I could, unfortunately there just aren't reliable sources out there for this 3DO version, other than the GameFan review, and I could not find any Famitsu scores either. But I've still used that GameFan reference to expand Gameplay and Reception! Sceeegt (talk) 20:32, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, a little bit helps. :) BOZ (talk) 22:48, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep! The resources for 3DO is definitely less though unfortunately. Sceeegt (talk) 23:06, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking of! I've opened a move request on Talk:3DO Interactive Multiplayer. --Sceeegt (talk) 23:06, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think there's a lot of cleaning up to do so I've made additional proposals. Would be great to have your views on them too:
Sceeegt (talk) 01:35, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have anything more for Bass Rush: ECOGEAR PowerWorm Championship? BOZ (talk) 19:23, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like that one does have more coverage![1] BOZ (talk) 19:43, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you see anything more besides those for that game? BOZ (talk) 22:58, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll have a look soon Sceeegt (talk) 15:45, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks. :) BOZ (talk) 16:22, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A very obscure game! Unfortunately I couldn't find detailed Famitsu reviews or at all for the N64 version, nor other sources covering it. Sceeegt (talk) 03:38, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for doing what you could. :) BOZ (talk) 06:03, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Atari, Inc. (1993–present), may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A bare URL error. References show this error when one of the URL-containing parameters cannot be paired with an associated title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 23:08, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
In recognition of your continued improvement as an editor and your efforts to tackle the articles that need the help. Well done. Onwards and upwards! Panini! 🥪 14:32, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I saw your name around Wikiproject Video games and I wanted to recognize your successes so far. You have done some great work with rescuing stub articles and engaging in discussion on the video game talk pages. You have Boz thankful too, and all the homies love Boz.
Mistakes will happen and I hope you don't let that deter you from going deeper and being bold. There's a lot of rules, and it can be easy to misinterpret some messages on here as mean, but once the rules and crowd becomes familiar it's a lot of fun on this website.
If you have any more questions that you're looking for quick insight on you may want to check out the unofficial WP:DISCORD, where a good portion of the video game crowd is active in. For source hunting I also recommend checking out this search engine to make source hunting easier. I assume you're already aware of the source list. Panini! 🥪 14:40, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks! Yep it's been great to improve many pages especially the stub older games. The main reason I joined recently is because I noticed a lot of missing VG information. I had a ton of time the past month and used it to make many edits. I've actually been making minor edits every here and then as an IP for a long time. Now I do wish I had done this earlier but better late than never!
I guess being in the field of copywriting has its benefits. Currently I'm trying to solve the Atari issue as there's a lot of confusion regarding the articles and their names. I did my best to advertise suggestions and proposals in the Wikiproject but not enough responses so far.
I personally think one big problem that many Wikipedia articles suffer from are bad intros. With that I mean intros that are unnecessarily overloaded, too much trivial information or content that shouldn't be in an intro, or having as many as six or seven paragraphs. I've done my best to concise many of these intros but I wish there was more attention regarding this issue. (here's one I did recently) Sceeegt (talk) 13:41, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Neo Geo

[edit]

We're not getting any feedback on the Neo Geo stuff, and I don't think we're going to receive enough support for the change to go through. I don't feel comfortable with the silence on the move. More so, the merge would take a lot of effort, that I'm not in a place to support. I tried demoing what it would look like and don't like the results. There's also the problem that there will be no central Neo Geo list of hardware, which I think is an oversight. I'm going to withdraw, let the thought simmer for a bit, and then maybe in the future you can move Neo Geo to List of Neo Geo hardware, is my recommendation. TarkusABtalk/contrib 21:36, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What a shame as I thought this would easily go through considering the state of Neo Geo as it is. The silence is a bit strange too especially as there was a supporter in the redundant proposal. Thanks for assisting though, but I'll definitely come back to it.
I don't actually think a central list of hardware article is needed. Not even the likes the Sony, Xbox or arcade makers like Namco have such articles - all the details are within their company pages and it's sufficient. Especially in the case of Neo Geo where there's not very much to talk about other than the original system, as the other hardware products are not so notable (and two of them are very obscure). Recently, I planned to make changes to SNK by adding a 'Products' or 'Franchises' section for its games which I have not started yet - this may be a possible place to put hardware with it. Sceeegt (talk) 13:50, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I just created a Products section in SNK and have put brief hardware info there too. Looking at your experiments I think you were trying too much to make it detailed but I think this brief way is simple yet effective - for SNK at least it looks fine. --Sceeegt (talk) 16:59, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One more thing, I may be "bold" and at the very least move the Neo Geo recreations (like MVS Mini) from Neo Geo to Neo Geo (system), as technically speaking that makes sense. It's also a small transitionary move for a potential future merge/delete should that go ahead. Of course in the process I would also reference it because currently it's in a poor state. Orphaned non-free image File:OW2 portrait cover.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:OW2 portrait cover.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:38, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Many new articles, minor errors

[edit]

Your speed at making new articles is really shocking, especially with the quality of referencing. I would advise taking care in some cases when you add links to disambiguation pages, and when using generic names in references like last=admin or last=publisher. Keep up the good work, but make sure you double check yourself. Reconrabbit 22:06, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Shocking indeed if it was that fast, but it's not what it looks like. I actually began in my sandbox but eventually ended up making all the articles/sources in there before copying and publishing them in one go. And thanks, I'll double check the generic references from here on. Sceeegt (talk) 22:18, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I thought that might be the case, that also makes sense. I always link back to or move my sandbox to the article when doing that sort of thing but it's fine doing it your way too. Reconrabbit 00:02, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WPVG Sources thread

[edit]

Hi Sceeegt! I'm sorry but I don't think your sources thread will get many responses. The usual advice is to ask about one or maybe two sources at a time, in separate threads. It's also recommended that you include as much detail as you can about the source's author(s), publisher, editorial policy, use by reliable sources, any red or green flags you noticed about them, plus what you'd like to use them for. I hope this helps! Woodroar (talk) 23:01, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for the advice! I'll remove the thread entirely and remake them in due course. Sceeegt (talk) 23:03, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll watch for them and comment if I can! Woodroar (talk) 23:07, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Up now! Sceeegt (talk) 00:17, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

About AfD

[edit]

I apologize for templating you three times within seven days. I mean to tell you that my deletion nominations are in no way meant as WP:HOUNDING, and I hold no ill will against you. You're great at creating new game articles that meet the Manual of Style-which is why I AfDed them so fast, as the perfect formatting obscures the fact that their topics aren't notable.

Thank you for understanding. QuietCicada chirp 16:06, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand, thanks. --Sceeegt (talk) 17:36, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Genshin Impact cover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Genshin Impact cover.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Awesome Aasim 00:32, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Again, as I stated in that linked discussion, WP:NFCC takes precedence over other guidelines like WP:VGBOX. The PD-ineligible-USonly logo serves sufficient identification. Awesome Aasim 16:49, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Then how do you explain virtually every video game article that exists here on Wikipedia that has a cover art when so many of them could have free logos instead? Sceeegt (talk) 21:53, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS isn't a good reason to keep or delete something, especially with the non-free criteria. If you do have concern about other uses the non-free criteria you are free to nominate them for deletion, but be mindful not to do so in a manner to make a point. You can discuss this in WT:NFCC or WP:HELPDESK or some other suitable forum if you'd like, or raise the matter at WP:DRV. Awesome Aasim 22:08, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GamePad Digital moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to GamePad Digital. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources, it needs more sources to establish notability and you may have a possible Conflict of Interest. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Camilear (talk) 15:39, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I want to challenge this because I do not in any shape or form have a connection to the topic, and I have added ample number of reliable sources to the article. I believe the reasoning given for moving to draft is invalid. Sceeegt (talk) 21:00, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
