DYKs
[edit]Re your comment about "drive-by nominations". As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter who started the article, or who nominated it. A drive-by can encourage a newer editor to write more articles. It encouraged me when I first started editing some 20 years ago. So, if you spot a new article with an interesting fact about it, feel free to nominate it at DYK. Mjroots (talk) 06:46, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- No worries @Mjroots:. In fact, my first DYK nom was truly a drive-by nomination which I nominated just in-time: Cozy game (nom page) as I never edited the article other than (just now) to add to the cozy games category. I consider Jubilee Bridge (Tay) to be semi-drive-by since I improved it after nomination. The Midland Main Line upgrade was mostly edited by another user, then I proved that to GA and got that onto DYK. I sometimes considered a drive-by nom, but I often forget about it unless I created/improved it myself. My guess is that only 10% of created articles get nominated by DYK. My guess is that not many people know about DYK. JuniperChill (talk) 09:54, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Let me also add that I created and nominated Tiny Glade (nom) just before the 2024 rail crash in Wales. JuniperChill (talk) 10:48, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- And the Tiny Glade article is getting a lot of views, almost 1000 yesterday, way more than I expected. I bet the DYK will get over 500 views per hour. JuniperChill (talk) 13:46, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Spelling error
[edit]I don't think there is a problem with correcting a spelling error even in a closed discussion per WP:REDACT as all it does is correct a spelling and the only way the meaning may be considered to have been changed is as a result of the error. I don't wish to have spelling errors in my posts and given that I later discovered it I don't think there is a problem with simply correcting it. I'm aware that correcting spelling errors etc in other people's comments is generally frowned upon, see Template:Uw-tpv1 but I don't think that applies with you're own posts even if archived, thanks. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:55, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Turns out you've been doing it to others as well and none of the others have been reverted. I think this is a fine example of WP:IAR which I forgot about, and possibly also WP:NOTBURO. You are welcome to revert what I did to your comment at Talk:Newhaven. I would never edit others comments except under WP:TPO. There's even a discussion going on about this too about applying WP:TPO on archived discussions JuniperChill (talk) 23:34, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, I don't really think there is a problem correcting typos even in archived discussions on you're own posts. As far as other people's typos go I don't do this except in cases like this where the typo would cause confusion in a discussion and if I do I always make sure I ping the user. I do occasionally remove double signs or additional headers from move discussions but otherwise per TOP I don't generally edit other people's posts. That said if I saw someone correcting typos in other people's posts I wouldn't revert or ask them not to unless the person who posted the comments complained about it.
