Technical news
A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. Arbitration
Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 12, 2022 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.
Miscellaneous
Tech tip: A single IPv6 connection usually has access to a "subnet" of 18 quintillion IPs. Add /64 to the end of an IP in Special:Contributions to see all of a subnet's edits, and consider blocking the whole subnet rather than an IP that may change within a minute.
Welcome to the one hundred and seventy sixth WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.

The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
Happy Christmas
A very Happy Christmas to all project members, hope you are all OK. The number of articles supported by the project is increasing slowly so thanks for all the hard work during the year. At this time of the year there is an increase in vandalism so if you have time keep an eye on the articles tagged with the project's banner to keep then vandal free. Many of the regulars are away over the feastive period so more chance for things to go unnoticed. Take care hope to see you all active in the new year.

The December 2022 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no nominations on the project talk page.
The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.
Monitoring is essential Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
Moves Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR. You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.

Hi John, my memory is not great, but i think I recall you sending me something very much like the above quite a long time ago. I do not disagree with what you say. I also belong to the Humanists and think they are more important than the Skeptics. Too often the Skeptics make a big deal about something that is in no way important. --Bduke (talk) 06:12, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
The King (or Queen) is very much involved in the award. Every year all the King's Scouts and Kings Guides are invited to a rally at Windsor and the King addresses them. I remember going to it way back in 1956. I was living in UK then. Wikipedia says "King's Scouts are entitled to attend one King's Scout Parade held at Windsor Castle each year held on the Sunday closest to St George's Day; this is the only time when Scouts officially march". --Bduke (talk) 20:59, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
I was also in the Scouts in the UK until I emigrated to Canada. The Queen died in September so the Guides and Scouts would not have attended a rally at Windsor during the reign of King Charles. However, the King's Scout, and here's the reference to show that the Queen's Scout was renamed the King's Scout, isn't a usable source for King's Guide. There doesn't seem to be any current references to call the Queen's Guide the King's Guide. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk),
Hello, Bduke/Archive 16! During the entire month of February there will be an ongoing edit-a-thon on all labour related projects across English Wikipedia and sister projects. Register to track your edits and sign up on the edit-a-thon's project page as a participant. To invite other participants paste {{subst:WPLABOR/2023}} on their talk page! This event is organized by WP:WikiProject Organized Labour
Apologies for this message out of the blue but I saw one of your (helpful) edits and, not having seen the username before, had a look at your user page. I have rarely felt such a sense of affinity as I did reading your page. I may be a couple of years younger and my academic prowess was at London rather than Oxford (although my children and grandchildren have done much to right that balance), but I too was much involved in Scouting and also abandoned religious belief quite early on. I haven't had the multi national working experience but I have had the pleasure of being a working scientist in Wales, and now temporarily resident in New Zealand for as long as I am allowed.
Many thanks for writing your user page and reminding me that maybe, just maybe, Brexit is not forever.
Best wishes VelellaVelella Talk 03:45, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

North Yorkshire
A note that there will be a major change coming up for North Yorkshire with the reorganisation of the local government of the area. This will see the abolition of the districts and North Yorkshire becoming a unitary authority taking on all of the responsibilities of the district councils. This will require a change to most articles relating to the area. If you have any thoughts on what needs doing then make them known at the project talk page.

I have nominated Scouting for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets the featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" in regards to the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:14, 27 April 2023 (UTC)

I am doing an informal survey of just you to see if I can get some preliminary understanding of how certain issues are seen by the wider WPcommunity, if at all. Do you consider WP:NJOURNALS to have the weight of a policy or guideline. If so, how did you come to that decision? I am trying to figure out what exactly is going on with that area of Wikipedia and something seems off to me. jps (talk) 12:16, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
Hello Bduke, I don't know how to start this comment but let me look for somewhere to start from. After taking a look at your userpage, your comments on the talk pages of some Nigerian Wikipedians (like this one) that I have come across, your user contributions, I want to specially thank you for being kind. For being a great admin too when you were still one. Thank you for all your contributions to this multilingual project. You see, see the project you contributed to, see what it has become now - the horsepower of knowledge and information. Maybe I wouldn't have met this project in this shape if you didn't contribute to it. I will be watching your TP from now :). Thank you once again! Vanderwaalforce (talk) 16:14, 5 October 2023 (UTC)s
Many thanks for your comment. After my time in Kano and my recent time on Wikipedia, I think I can help users from Nigeria as it must be more difficult for many there to edit than it is for me. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you and your colleagues. However, I am getting old and my memory is not what it was. Bduke (talk) 01:02, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
