Hey, thanks for successfully nominating Den for a DYK; after finishing it up I was thinking, nah, this doesn't qualify for DYK at all. BTW, the hook should have said "Battle Angel Alita manga", but what's done is done. Cheers, BrokenSphereMsg me 05:48, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Alice Timander

[edit]

Alice Timander, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Alice Timander satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alice Timander and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Alice Timander during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Crassic (T+C) 23:34, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't take any offense to my AfD. I personally did not see any relevance of the article at the time. After reading sources, I have somewhat changed my opinion. Either way, Happy Editing. Crassic (TALK!) 22:09, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Regarding image Michelangelo Antonioni..This image was originally uploaded from it.wikpedia. That person uploaded the image from flickr. On both flickr and it.wikpedia, the license attached to the image clearly states that it is non-commercial.... however, now that the image is on wikipedia, the attached license permits commercial use....is this a mistake. The reason for my concern.I would like to use this image in a book I'm writing, and I need to know if commercial use of this image is allowed Thanks, --Danwex 16:55, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Licenses with NC (non-commercial use only) are not OK here. As the image is not OK, consider asking the author to release the work under a free license such as CC-BY (Creative Commons Attribution license) or CC-BY-SA (Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike). --Camptown 21:42, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking into this matter. Since you were the person who originally uploaded this file from it.wikipedia, I think you are the best person to contact HumanBehavior at flickr about releasing this work under a free license. I am a newcomer to Wikipedia and wouldn't know how to go about it, whereas you are an experienced professional. Thanks again--Danwex 02:28, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not insert false information in articles. According to WP:HOAX that may be considered a form of vandalism. // Liftarn

"Nobel Prize in Economics"

[edit]

There is no such consensus about using the name "Nobel Prize in Economics" in all articles that include some statement about the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. All comments in Talk:Nobel Prize in Economics about this have ended in no consensus. Also, the policy that you are claiming that states that the common name should be used only applies to the title of an article, not to the content of an article. So please stop citing those as reasons for changing the name of the prize in all articles related to it. Furthermore, changing the name to the correct name of the prize, as Liftarn has been doing, is not vandalism.

I assume you're an economist or someone interested in economics and economists. IMHO, you're doing a huge disservice to the prestige of the prize by calling it a Nobel Prize.

Anyway, I've left a question for you in Template talk:Nobel Prize in Economics Laureates 2001-2025 and would appreciate a reply. –panda 16:03, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you find the long official name more relevant, please consult the endless debate and votes at Talk:Nobel Prize in Economics. So far, a broad majority obviously finds the short form correct enough, but if you initiate another vote, you might get a different result. Furthermore, if you find the term "Nobel Prize in Economics" so offending and incorrect (or a "lye" and a hoax as user:Liftarn sometimes puts it), why don't you ask the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm to stop sponsoring the prize, which is the case as the foundation indeed issues the diploma, organizes the Nobel lectures, awards the medal, and hands over the prize cheque (from the Swedish Central Bank - a bank btw which has never been called "Bank of Sweden"). Of course the prize might be called the "Sveriges Riksbank's Prize in Economic Sciences", but again, the community does not, for a number of reasons, share that opinion. What user:Liftarn is doing is plain vandalism, as he/she on a continuous basis and rather violently pushes for the long form in violation to the consensual votes. As regards the use of long or short name, I understand that user:Liftarn has been warned and even blocked for similar violations in the past. --Camptown 21:26, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
BTW. What a waste of time! Why do you demand a reply here as you two are currently involved in a campaing for the long name elsewhere? --Camptown 21:44, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've left a comment for you in Template talk:Nobel Prize in Economics Laureates 2001-2025 and would appreciate a reply. –panda 15:55, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Montenegrin Flag

[edit]

It is official - but isn't quite used anymore. --PaxEquilibrium 11:55, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. The ruling coalition of Milo Djukanovic adopted it in 2004 on an irregular session of the parliament, in a partially illegal way. For years now, especially nowadays that the new Constitution is being drafted, experts and politicians are discussing whether or not it should be legalized. The main reason why article Montenegro uses it is that in 2006 it was internationally recognized (accepted to the UN) under that flag. --PaxEquilibrium 12:02, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming good faith (part deux...)

[edit]

This cuts both ways. Please don't label edits over content disputes as "vandalism"; it's only going to lead to further aggravation. Chris Cunningham 12:20, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, you're right, but the concerted action currently done by two editors are very close to vandalism. --Camptown 16:24, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And I'm sure that would make an interesting, Wikipedia-specific corollary to Clarke's Third Law ("any sufficiently advanced content dispute is indistinguishable from vandalism"), but nonetheless it's certainly not being contained by adding more fuel. Chris Cunningham 16:28, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The thing is that the issue is under continious review (and broad majority has repeatedly found the short form correct), but for some reason, these two editors (possibly the same person) are again forcefully and with bad faith trying to change the established short form of the Nobel Prize in Economics. --Camptown 16:34, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As I've said to Liftarn, the correct procedure therefore is to protect the page until consensus is reached through discussion. A protracted, long-past 3RR revert war will just get everyone blocked, which is hardly an optimal solution. Chris Cunningham 16:38, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Many collars

Look below the shield. Do you want me to draw arrows pointing to them?

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Time-Magazine Ingmar Bergman.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Time-Magazine Ingmar Bergman.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Have you participated in the discussion to be able with all asureances state that no compromise had not been reached. Why have you changed something that you are not even interested to discuss. What I can presume is that you are not doing this for the goodness of your heart but for other still unexplained reasons. I think that it is most probably the time (which has grown to a boiling point) and that Duje and others like him had drawn ranks and find ample associates for the project of destruction of the compromise that had been reached.

What facts do you speak of and where are the sources for them.

Borders of Serbia

[edit]

Your edit on the Serbia site lacks consistency. You added Kosovo as a neighbor, but did not remove Albania. I do not want to indulge in the ongoing lengthly discussion about the status of Kosovo. However, independent from this question, looking at the map it is clear that Serbia cannot have international borders with both territories at the same time. I hope you do not mind that I reedit that. Tomeasy (talk) 10:06, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think we have to obey the decisions of the United Nations. I'll get Albania back in the neighboring countries.--Vitriden (talk) 17:05, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Give me one reason it should be accepted. The least you can say is it's bordering Albania via the breakaway province of Kosovo, this way you are making a presumption about the final decision on the status of Kosovo. And, by the words of one Eric Cartman: "This is not over. Oh no, not by a long shot."
And I am not a nationalist. I am just very annoyed by the way this whole thing is being done.--Vitriden (talk) 08:18, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I am a bit puzzled. Is this still a reply to my statement? If so, let me clarify: I did not want to take any stance in this quarrel about the status of Kosovo. I just tried to explain that from any point of view Serbia cannot border Kosovo and Albania together. More explicitly: If you advocated the Kosovo national site, then bordering country would be Kosovo. If you are on the Serbian national site, then the neighboring country would be Albania. Listing both countries is geographically impossible. And about the controversy itself: Let's just wait for some time. Anything else is a waste of energy. Norway's recognition of Kosovo

[edit]

I did. The press release says it all.--Trigor (talk) 17:33, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My full explanation of my edits: The first thing about Putin saying something is interesting and all, but it is hardly a noteworthy news event as is the US’s reaction to its embassy being attack. Both statements simply reiterate established opinions voiced many times before. As for Peru, it’s no big deal that another country recognized Kosovo’s independence. Sixteen other counties have already done so and just because it’s the first one from South America does not make it extraordinary. – Zntrip 23:23, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot accept your very selective deletions of items you personally happen not to enjoy... --Camptown (talk) 23:34, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What makes you think this is personal? You really haven’t given me a reason as to why they should be included. – Zntrip 02:07, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, you should be credited for your concern about this project. And - I can agree with you that the items are not the most thrilling, but they might very well be interesting and noteworthy enough from the perspective of the recent development. To me, the American warning of retaliation should the Serbs not take adecvate action to protect the U.S. embassy seems noteworthy enough, and it doesn't seem fair just to delete it right away, especially as the item as been further edited by other wp users whose competens I wouldn't question. However, I'll give you the last word and will not further revert your revisions regarding the items in question. --Camptown (talk) 09:43, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. you are revert-warring all over the place. Stop restoring the RoK flag to the Kosovo stub templates. I will revert additions of both the Serbian and the RoK flag to these templates, per WP:NPOV. You are clearly violating Wikipedia core policy, and making it worse by pushing your violations by edit-warring. Wikipedia is not built for behaviour like this, and our only solution for people who insist regardless of warnings and admonitions is WP:BLOCK. dab (𒁳) 14:08, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's no point putting back a warning when an editor removes it- you know they've seen it. See also Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars. Friday (talk) 19:43, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The templates should certainly be used with caution, but they are more than legitimate in this case. --Camptown (talk) 20:04, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You get in a content dispute, and instead of discussing the substance of the issue, you leave warning messages and edit war over them? I don't call that legitimate at all. Friday (talk) 20:08, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You'd better address your concern about the lack of discussion of the substance of the issue to my opponent in this extremly silly disupute. --Camptown (talk) 20:48, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"lack of discussion" indeed. If you stop plastering my talkpage with templates, and condescend to defend your edit on a talkpage (like, in a customized explanation relevant to the case, defending how your edits do not violate WP:NPOV), we will have a real dispute. Until you do so, this is no dispute, it is just nationalist trolling. --dab (𒁳) 13:14, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed item from Daily news

[edit]

"*Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Jiang Yu says that Dalai Lama is the head representative of a "serf system, which harbors no democracy, freedom and human rights in any form, [and which] is the darkest slavery system in human history". (China Daily)"

I removed this for three reasons: NPOV, Notability, and hersay. Its propaganda, and from China Daily. I would be extremely supprised if *any* other news agency would carry it, without citing the controversial nature. I will not revert, if you revert the deletion. I noticed that you are the only one that is archiving discussions at Talk:International reaction to the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence. It's nice to see someone doing that menial work! :) But, the archives that you created are pretty small (under 75k) and this means that within a year, there will be an insane number of archives. I suggest making the archives bigger instead of breaking them up into chunks, meaning generally 100+ discussions per archive page. I've setup automatic archiving on the talk page, however, and so a bot will archive the page once a day automatically so that every archive page is at most 250k. I'm just giving you a heads up so you don't have to do that anymore. Cheers! Gary King (talk) 22:18, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:AlidaRossander2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:32, 14 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 13:32, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kozmo.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Proposed deletion of Swedish Academy (disambiguation)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Swedish Academy (disambiguation), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

unnecessary disamb page, since it only covers two articles that already link to each other, plus it should really be at Svenska Akademien (disambiguation) since that is the name of the band mentioned.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Jiiimbooh (talk) 17:04, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Features of Skype is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Features of Skype until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Sandman888 (talk) 20:19, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Peter-No-Tail in Americat has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to meet WP:NFILMS. No significant coverage in reliable sources, nor are there any in the article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
