Casliber

[edit]
Hi, my name is Cas Liber and I was the Banksia Study Group leader in the Australian Plants Society (aka Wildflower Society/SGAP) until 2016. I live in Sydney and have a head full of trivia. I have been an admin here for a while, since March 2007 after beingnominated by Spawn Man. I have nominated or co-nominated six other editors, Sabine's SunbirdCbl62GrahamColmFranamax,Ucucha and StringTheory11 to adminship. I was successful in the 2008 elections for the arbitration committee, however resigned in October 2009 after keeping quiet when I should have spoken up. Long story that. Maybe over a few beers sometime. In any case, resigning was made easier with the knowledge I was leaving a good crew in charge. I changed my mind and decided to run again in 2010, and was successful again, which led to a two year term on the arbitration committee until December 2012. Thought about rerunning, but ultimately didn't as (again) was content that there'd be the basis of a good crew around and I could focus on content and some other ideas, such as the Core Contest (which I coordinated for six runs—twice in 2012, once each in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016), the Stub Contest (in December 2013, September 2014 and August 2015) and Take the lead! (January 2016). I think we're at a bit of a crossroads now.

I can vouch for the identity of the following editors I have met IRL, including Ta bu shi da yuAnonymous DissidentWitty lama,AngelaTony1WerdnaEnochlauAlastair Haines (who I have known for 25 years), TamsinWikiwookieNick-D, Noetica, Wm,One Salient OversightBenAvelingJimboPrivatemusingsTim StarlingAndjamHesperianGnangarraMoondyneCygnis insignisiridescentRoger DaviesCarcharothCool Hand LukeJimfbleak99of9ChuqLankiveilWhiteghost.inkPoyt448 andJohn Vandenberg as well as chatting to The_undertowOrderinchaosDurova and FT2 on the phone.

- I figure every bit helps.

[edit]
FA RECIPE
  1. add everything one can think of for comprehensiveness grounds, especiallycritique/commentary etc.
  2. ensure all referenced with inline reliable sources
  3. copyedit (ideally wait until all material added, but often tidying along the way is unavoidable)
  4. ask 1-2 uninvolved folks to take a squiz.
  5. GAN
  6. See if GAN reviewer suggested "bonus stuff" to work on before FAC
  7. Consider Peer Review if topic not familiar with bringing to FA level
  8. FAC and presto, one Featured Article...

I have found working with a bunch of like minded folks on an article or wikiproject when it kicks into top gear one of the most inspiring things, the rapid-fire editing of an article gunning toward FA as writer's blocks are sequentially blasted out of the way is just amazing to witness via the diffs/hists. I am a bit of a slob — all my work on FAs has been the result of collaborations with two or more really good copyeditors and folk who are much more perfectionist than I am. Thanks guys.

On reviewing articles, the whole system works if we all review around three articles for every one we nominate. I appreciate thorough reviews (no, really) so don't be shy to nitpick extensively. We're all here to make the best articles possible.

Hi

Welcome to my page and to the English Wikipedia. I am an administrator, AWB Project editor, on the English Wikipedia. Any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page!

I am a massive EastEndersNeighbours and Deal or No Deal fan originally from Edinburgh but now living in Newcastle Upon Tyne. I also contribute towards Walford Web Wiki by updating it and reviewing it and I reviewed Neighbours for PerfectBlend. My favourite cartoons would have to be Family GuyAmerican Dad (both created by the wonderful Seth MacFarlane) and The SimpsonsGiggity!!

In fact my username, comes from EastEnders, home of my favourite EastEnders family.

My favourite actors are Alan Fletcher aka Dr Karl Kennedy (Neighbours) and John Partridge aka Christian Clarke in EastEnders.

I currently work for Sony Xperia in the UK and have done so since May 2014. Prior to that I worked for Samsung for over 7 years. For the first 3 and a half years I provided technical support for mobile phones and household appliances until mid 2010 when I moved to the customer complaints team and relocated with them to Newcastle upon Tyne.

I fundraise for both Diabetes UK and Asthma UK as I have been a registered Diabetic for the past few years and a registered Asthmatic since March 2012.

I've been around since 2002. I actively started contributing in January 2003, and I've been an Administrator since August 2003. For some unwise reason, I signed up with my real name.

Apparently I speak West–Central Canadian English, as well as heavily-accented but coherent French. I can read Latin and French (and Old French), German if necessary, and bits of Arabic. I lived in Nantes, France for 18 months, where very few people speak English. I have a PhD in medieval studies, and work on some ridiculously obscure aspects of the crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem, like the kind of things where in real life other people go "oh...!" and smile politely. But I know this is Wikipedia and none of that means anything.

Since I have a job, a family, and a general disillusionment with Wikipedia, I am not as active as I once was. I mean, I don't think I can co-exist on a Wikipedia that has articles about individual Heidi Montag songs.

Testimonials[edit]

[edit]

As an editor:

  • "There will certainly be several problems in "Adam Bishop"'s path towards doctorate in medieval history, if his working methods and use of sources are as can be deduced from his possessive treatment of the text in this article."
  • "Almost every single sentence is faulty or incomplete. The article must be rewritten by someone who read the book and who has proper scholar background"
  • "MY illiterate friend Adam !...Learn history before you write!"
  • "Do you want to get PHD in a (noname beast) Canadian university? PHD is very very low rank compare with real academic scholars (as writers of British Britannica). Do you think you are better than members of Royal Academy ? Hahahaha"
  • "I dont't want to heart you, but Britannica is more creditable than the private opinion of an aspirant PHD-boy."
  • "Be wise, at this point you can crawfish without the loosing of your countenances."
  • "You behave like a self-appointed opinion-champion, wich is a clearly childish behaviour. You are a micro Stalin on wikipedia, and therefore you are noxious."
  • "You can't proove your statements. Please show me an academic work which can deny that fact. I'm still waitnig for it! Until that, your oppinion remain only just a private opinion."
  • "It is unfounded accusations & slanders!"

As an administrator:

  • "Adam Bishop is the single longest running Admin I have ever run into on Wikipedia. I am shocked by his behavior and have concerns that he is acting out of his nature and that perhaps real world circumstances have become overwhelming."
  • "I cannot believe the cavalier attitude towards the tools and "power" behind them...but it might have been forgivable until the unbelievable disregard for the community as a whole..."
  • "Adam Bishop's use of the tools here was so far out of line, and his response when questioned was just as bad, a desysop is the only choice."
  • "I will ask ArbCom to de-sysop you, and I don't think there is much doubt that they will do it."

Things to do if I had an infinite amount of time and energy[edit]

Some useful links[edit]

[edit]
[edit]

For the "Did you know?" section on the Main Page:

I don't really spend enough time here anymore to work on Featured Articles; the whole concept is kind of sketchy, since a Featured Article is still featured on Wikipedia. Nevertheless:

And some Good Articles as well:

  • Siege of Damascus (well, I started it)
  • William the Carpenter - I am particularly pleased with this. I think one of the most efficient uses of Wikipedia is to correct misinformation that is spread all over the Internet, especially for obscure subjects like this one.
  • Usama ibn Munqidh

Here are the barnstars people have seen fit to give me for some reason. I don't quite get these; anyone can give one to anyone else for any reason, so do they really mean anything? Oh well.

An Award
I award this Epic Barnstar to Adam Bishop for his extensive work on history articles.

(From LordAmeth, October 12, 2005)
