Other political affiliations

[edit]

In previous discussion, consensus overwhelmingly supported adding this section of the infobox, because it's pertinent and highly reported. 2019 discussion. I believe the same.

The DSA is not a party, it's a nonprofit organization no matter how hard some people wish and hope and pray that it is, and until they make legal steps to do so, and if/when AOC makes the decision to leave the Democratic Party and register as a DSA voter/candidate for office, it will remain inappropriate and false to call it "other political affiliations." We should not be going down a rabbit hole where every semi-official grouping gets listed as nauseam in infoboxes because someone wants to shove that Josh Gottheimer is a "Blue Dog+NewDem+Problem Solver". Describe her political positions and organizational membership in the DSA in the article where it belongs. Same holds for the WFP, which just throws an array of Dems their ballot line and/or endorsement off and on various election cycles but does NOT indicate such Dems are political party member of the WFP (and they quite literally have never been in NY). So it's highly inappropriate and even more incorrect to list that under "other" in the infobox since it's objectively untrue. Again, mention the connection in the text and of course break down the vote allocation in her electoral history where it belongs. Both DSA and WFP in the infobox is misleading and undue weight. Remove left wing

[edit]

Other members of Congress with even more left wing positons like Rashida Tlaib Cori Bush Ilhan Omar Bernie Sanders aren't labeled as left wing yet she is. Why not just say she is an American politician? Randomuser795 (talk) 17:45, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree.The discussion came up before and there was no consensus to call her left wing or far left. TFD (talk) 00:23, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@The Four Deuces just call her a politician like every other politician except a select few Randomuser795 (talk) 02:34, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed it per this discussion and the above; it seems to have been added in an effort to force WP:FALSEBALANCE (the editor who added it has focused heavily on comparing her to Marjorie Taylor Greene) but as far as I can tell no discussions ever producing a consensus for inclusion. It's not a primary focus of coverage about her, nor is it what she's most famous for; the coverage about her doesn't really focus on one particular term in the sense that it implies. --Aquillion (talk) 03:36, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aquillion Thank you a lot! Randomuser795 (talk) 03:48, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're right it should be amended to be "Far-Left". 2601:18C:8183:D410:95C5:A48A:F3D0:CB19 (talk) 15:45, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@2601:18C:8183:D410:95C5:A48A:F3D0:CB19 This isn't conservapedia. No objective source would call her far-left Randomuser795 (talk) 15:53, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but WP doesn't evsn blink when calling right-wing politicians "far right." 2601:447:D185:3340:D8D0:D244:ECF:4AD2 (talk) 05:39, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your recommendation is covered under Wikipedia:Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point. If you think the article on Green is wrong, then take it up there. Don't try to make this article wrong to prove a point. And note I have argued that the descriptions of Green are tendentious but don't try to argue AOC is far left. TFD (talk) 07:47, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The above 2601 /64 range has a history of vandalizing articles changing them to say the subject is far=left despite sources saying otherwise. Doug Weller talk 10:24, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

At the end of the third paragraph of the article, change: “She was reelected in the 2020 and 2022 elections.” to “She was reelected in the 2020, 2022, and 2024 elections.”

“2024” presumably also being hyperlinked to the “2024 United States House of Representatives elections in New York” Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections_in_New_York Algorithm-defined fantasy girl (talk) 20:54, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Biased Article

[edit]

I give to Wikipedia, unlike most users, but I’m not going to any more.

Articles such as this fawning, suck-up, totally tilted piece about “AOC” should NOT be allowed on WIKI without attribution. If you don’t have the guts to put your name with what you write, then don’t write! 2601:1C2:C184:53B0:99AC:2EED:F652:2A9F (talk) 09:49, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You are of course welcome to sign with your own name on this website whenever you please, but you might want to consider Wikipedia:On privacy, confidentiality and discretion first. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:28, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is hilarous to see an editor (an individual human being) contribute anonymously from their IP address, and then berate other editors for contributing anonymously. If you don’t have the guts to put your name with what you write, then don’t write! Well IP editor, at least I got a chuckle out of your blatant hypocrisy. I happen to be an editor who discloses my real world identity but nobody is obligated to do so on the #7 website worldwide. As for attribution, if you actually knew what you are talking about, you would already know that this article is already attributed to 1283 different editors, who you are free to investigate if you have the competence to do so. Easily winning re-election

[edit]

Someone removed this, but it seems to be what the sources say; Pappas didn't even campaign, while the source for the election against Forte says that she "glided to victory" and calls Forte's challenge "nominal." It's just not a competitive district (not in the general election), which is not uncommon in New York, so saying that she won easily isn't exceptional the way it might be in more swing-y districts - it's something coverage of elections in these sorts of districts often highlights this way. --Aquillion (talk) 13:37, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

"Far-left" label

[edit]

In the part of the page where it says "Ocasio-Cortez has been described as progressive, left-wing, left-wing populist, and far-left.". Isn't the far-left label similar to the one used for La France Insoumise? Aka, a label used by their critics?

I don't think the label and the sources should be removed for "far-left", but I believe a footnote and/or extra sentence mentioning how the "far-left" is mainly used by her critics should be discussed and perhaps added to her page. ZlatanSweden10 (talk) 20:52, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
