The RECOs appear as strong, silver, eight-"eyed" (one of which is red and the other seven are cyan) humanoid robots, and each have a pair of antennae upon their heads. They also wield claws on both arms. They also have a spike sticking out from their backs.

In the book, their leader is unknown and they are the main antagonists. They also look very different from their film counterparts.
Strangely, when they appear again later in the film. Brightbill oddly enough, does not show any sort of reaction to them being there, despite the fact that one of them was the one who killed Longbeak.
