DWA had streamed exclusively through Netflix since 2013, but in May, 2018, Hulu signed a license deal with DreamWorks, becoming the exclusive streaming home for future DWA movie feature films, as well as library films. Films will be available on the service in 2019, while original series will be available later in 2020. The exclusive Netflix deal ended in 2019, when How To Train Your Dragon: Hidden World went to Hulu instead of Netflix. DreamWorks-Netflix originals will still be on Netflix.

In 2021, Universal Pictures signed a deal with Netflix to license their animated films from DreamWorks and Illumination to the service after being on Peacock for 3 months. And then on Netflix for 10 months, and back to Peacock for another 4 months. With The Bad Guys being the first DreamWorks Animation movie to be released on Netflix during this new deal.

Netflix also distributed DreamWorks' film, Orion and the Dark. Which was released on February 2, 2024. And was the studio's first movie to have a direct-to-streaming release. Since Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans
