Kitty? You are not as good as they say. You are better!
Puss in Boots[src]

Kitty Softpaws, often referred to as just Kitty, is the deuteragonist of Dreamworks's 2011 film Puss in Boots and its 2022 sequel. She is a crafty and smart cat that becomes Puss' girlfriend. She is voiced by Salma Hayek, and she speaks with a Spanish accent, just like Puss in Boots.

Background[]

Personality[]

Cool and sleek, Kitty knows how to be alluring without ever being a damsel in distress. She can be quite impatient but never falters under pressure. At first, she cared only about the score, but that all changes when she meets Puss. She is incredibly sneaky, sophisticated, smart, beautiful, charming, and alluring to all, especially Puss.

Physical Appearance[]

Kitty is a tuxedo cat with blue eyes, a white oval shape on her chest, two white paws, and white tip on her tail, Accessory wise, she wears a pair of brown boots with each slit on the top. She originally wore a belt like Puss in Puss in Boots, but now wears a green sash around her waist in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Appearances[]

Puss in Boots[]

In Humpty's scheme to use Puss, Humpty calls upon Kitty for her talent and manipulation. On the night, Puss tries to rob Jack and Jill; Kitty (in a mask) seems to be after the beans, too. Things don't work well; they end up in a cat club. It's dance night, so instead of just boxing, the two cats duke it out with dance. Puss is impressed by the stranger, but he whacks her with a guitar after slipping milk on his boots. She takes off the masks, and a stunned Puss releases she's a female. Puss gets infatuated with this kindred spirit but is furious to see her in alliance with his ex-best friend, Humpty. Kitty charms Puss into helping her steal the golden eggs, but as he explains his history with Humpty, she falls asleep.

Eventually, Puss is convinced to help them steal the eggs for the sake of his hometown and mother (a human woman who loved him as a kitten).

During the adventure, she and Puss became friends. She explains the sad story of how her previous owners declawed her; Puss comforts her with the knowledge that cat people are crazy.

After stealing the golden egg-laying gander, she and Puss enjoy a dance, but Humpty warns Kitty not to get too close. The next morning, Puss awakes with everyone gone, thinking Jack and Jill have kidnapped his friends.

Puss travels to his hometown to find Humpty and the evil duo celebrating their swindle. Puss is thrown in jail for his old crime; Kitty watches sadly, realizing that she has fallen in love with Puss.

When Puss finds out from old Jack of the bean stock tale that the mother goose will destroy the town, he breaks out of the cell. Kitty comes to help him, which makes him happy but doesn't make them even. Letting the police grab her, thinking her booted feet are his, she gets Puss out; this makes them even.

In the end, the town loves Puss again, but he's still wanted by the law. As he leaves, Kitty is by his side, matching his moves to her. She promises they will meet again, sooner than he thinks, then she shows she's stolen his boots again and takes off after she blows him a kiss. She later becomes Puss' girlfriend after she and Puss dance briefly then kiss.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish[]

Kitty inadvertently reunites with Puss who goes after the Map to the Wishing Star, which ends up with them paired for the rest of the journey. Goldilocks and the Three Bears Crime Family went to hire her two weeks prior but was unavailable with her "spiritual retreat". On the way to the Dark Forest, she takes hold of the map on account of her broken trust with Puss and skepticism on Perrito.

Upon entering the forest, she and Puss let Perrito hold the map upon the forest's appearances when they held it. On the River of Relaxation, she opens up to Perrito on her history of trust (double-crossed by Jack Horner and left at the alter at Santa Coloma by Puss). Upon the confrontation with Horner and the Bears, she sees Perrito run off, resulting in her losing the map by Goldilocks in distraction. Kitty heads off to find Puss and Perrito, angry at Puss for running off. She finds and eavesdrops on Puss discussing his regret of leaving her at Santa Coloma to Perrito in the woods, seeing that there is still heart in him, and regroups with them and they head out to retrieve the map.

As they find Goldilocks and the Bears, Kitty reveals to Puss that she hadn't shown up at the wedding as she knew she wasn't able to compete with Puss' ego. Spending time with him again, she believes that he has changed since then. While having retrieved the map, she goes back for the kidnapped Perrito and they head back to regroup with Puss but see him running away with the map (not aware that the Wolf, later revealed Death, is after him). Finding him at the Wishing Star, she confronts him and believes he has betrayed her again; she reveals her wish is to have someone, i.e. Puss, to trust. After Puss shouts in anguish that Death is after him, Kitty believes he is being melodramatic as he revealed he was on his last life.

They come across Horner and the Bears who fight for the map, but they don't succeed as Goldilocks gives up her wish to save Baby Bear from his demise and kicks Horner into his nanny bag. When Puss comes face-to-face with Death, Kitty watches him duel while blocked by Death's walls of flames. As Death leaves in defeat and spares Puss, Kitty now believes Puss about Death being after him. She gives up her wish in having someone to trust as Puss has become that someone all along. As Horner later emerges out of his bag with the help of his magic snacks, she, Puss and the Bears defeat him and they destroy the map, resulting in the Wishing Star collapsing in on itself with him still on it.

Kitty and Puss rekindle their relationship and they and Perrito set sail to Far Far Away on a ship commandeered/stolen from the Governor of Del Mar.

The Trident[]

When camping in a Far Far Away forest and trying to explain the idea of "nine lives" to Perrito, Puss is teased by Kitty about "the Trident." As it turns out, the heist was what led to one of Puss' more embarrassing deaths. After much teasing, Puss tells the story to Perrito. Kitty made a surprise appearance, also trying to retrieve the trident of Poseidon. She is successful in claiming it, and uses the trident to save Puss from the pirates by summoning a giant tidal wave. This puts out the spark that would've shot Puss out of a cannon, but ultimately gives him an idea to "revolutionize travel." Wanting to enable the ridiculousness of the plan, she encourages a sailor to launch Puss out of the cannon. This ends up killing him, and making him lose his fifth life. Both Puss and Kitty laugh it off, as it was a defining moment for their relationship.
