Unlike other Mickey Mouse Works shorts which were made in color, this one is made in black-and-white, complete with aging and blur filters added to the image, which evokes the aesthetics of the original black-and-white classic Disney cartoons of the 1920s and 1930s.
For this reason, this is the first black-and-white Mickey Mouse cartoon since "Mickey's Kangaroo" (1935) 67 years earlier.
The title card sequence is a homage to the earliest black-and-white classic Mickey Mouse cartoons of the late-1920s.
Both Mickey and Minnie appear in their 1931 designs in this short.
Mortimer's design in this short is vastly different from his usual appearances in this show, as here he is redesigned to resemble much closely to what he would've looked like in 1931, while also taking inspiration from previous iterations of the character such as Mickey’s Rival and Floyd Gottfredson's Mr. Slicker; here, Mortimer has black dot-like "pie-eyes" and wears baggy slacks with two buttons, no shirt, plush shoes, a porkpie hat and a cane.
