When I first came here, I ran away, just like you. The team had saved me from Sentinels at the mall. But this place, a place where I could be me, where a foster brat belonged, that was scarier than any killer robot. Sure, Cyclops still won't let me fly the jet, but this isn't some weird school. It's a family.
―Jubilee[src]

Jubilation "Jubilee" Lee is one of the main characters in the Marvel Studios Animation series X-Men '97, which is a direct continuation of the 1992 X-Men animated series. She is a mutant with the ability to generate pyrotechnic energy blasts from her hands. As a junior member of the team, Jubilee takes it upon herself to be a mentor to Sunspot.

Jubilee was created by Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri.

Background[]

Physical appearance[]

Jubilee is a Chinese-American teenage girl with short black hair. She is thirteen-years-old at the start of the original series, and later turns eighteen by X-Men '97. Her basic attire is a pink turtleneck top with a pair of short light blue jeans, along with a large yellow trench coat with straps that hold the sleeves up to her elbows. Her attire includes a pair of yellow gloves with double straps around her wrists and light blue boots. Usually worn on top of her head as a headband, Jubilee wears a pair of pink 80s visor-style sunglasses, and a pair of pink round earrings with her name on them.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Pyrotechnic energy plasmoids generation/manipulation: As a mutant, Jubilee has the power to generate pyrotechnic energy plasmoids from her hands. The plasmoids obey her mental control, traveling where she directs them, arranging themselves in various shapes, and exploding when she wishes. The strength of the blasts varied in degrees of power and intensity, and can range from a multitude of colorful sparkles capable of temporarily blinding a person, to a powerful detonation capable of smashing objects and destroying property, or a precision burst inside a human brain, simulating the effects of a massive stroke. Jubilee can also absorb the energy back into her own body without harm.
  • Lockpicking: Jubilee learnt how to pick locks from a girl at her former orphanage.

Trivia[]

  • Kitty Pryde was originally going to appear in the 1992 X-Men animated series instead of Jubilee. However, due to the failure of X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men, Kitty fell out of prominence in the comics and was replaced with Jubilee.
  • In the original X-Men animated series, Jubilee was voiced by Alyson Court. However, she voices a digital copy of Jubilee called Abscissa in the episode "Motendo / Lifedeath Pt. 1". This version existed in a video game world created by Mojo.
  • Jubilee turned eighteen in 1997, making her thirteen when she first joined the X-Men in 1992.
