Blackie is a small, black sheep guarded by Pluto in the 1945 animated short, The Legend of Coyote Rock. She also appeared in 1949's Sheep Dog.

Background[]

Physical appearance[]

Blackie, hence her name, is a diminutive-sized lamb with black wool all over her body with two ears sticking out on both sides of her head. As a common characteristic for most ungulates (including sheep), Blackie has four small legs with pale gray legs sticking out with a small tail sticking out.

Appearances[]

The Legend of Coyote Rock[]

Blackie is one of the little lambs that Bent-Tail the Coyote was trying to eat while Pluto was trying to watch over the lambs during Pluto's duty as a sheepdog. As all the lambs leap into the pen, Blackie wanders off across the field as Pluto reacts in shock. Pluto then approaches Blackie and warns her that there is a coyote wandering around the landscape trying to look for something to eat (as in sheep), telling her to return to the pen where the lambs are resting. During the confrontation between Pluto and Bent-Tail, Pluto began to think that Blackie went unguarded with Bent-Tail still roaming around, fearing that Blackie might be in danger.

As Bent-Tail was trying to get the lambs' attention, Blackie and the rest of the lambs become Bent-Tail's prey, just as she reacts in shock. Bent-Tail then chases the little lamb across the canyon, only to be defended by Pluto. Pluto manages to chase off Bent-Tail and rescue Blackie and the rest of the lambs who were Bent-Tail's prey. All the lambs were safe, except Blackie, telling Pluto that he saw the biggest coyote she viewed as a threat to her. Blackie and Pluto continue observing the rock formation in the shape of a coyote dubbed "Coyote Rock".

Sheep Dog[]

Blackie is seen sleeping peacefully with the other little lambs in the pen just as Bent-Tail tells his son Bent-Tail Junior that the sheep he is seeing are a perfect meal for him, telling him to steal as part of his plans to feast on the sheep without getting caught by Pluto. Suddenly, Bent-Tail disguises his son as a sheep so that Bent-Tail Junior can get the sheep for his son to eat. Pluto suddenly hears the commotion, leading him to defend the Blackie and the rest of the sheep from the coyotes. Bent-Tail Junior later disguises himself as a sheep again just before Bent-Tail the next day leaps into the spot where his son is placed, causing the sheep to panic while Pluto defends the sheep from the coyotes. It turns out that the "sheep" that Bent-Tail caught was his son Bent-Tail Junior in disguise, causing Bent-Tail to cry that he failed to capture at least one sheep for his meal.
