Artist Village This Weekend; West Village Plugs Along

B. Nektar Meadery

OLD REDFORD — With a weekend of seasonably-appropriate weather in the outing, the Sidewalk Festival of Performing Arts takes over a series of courtyards and public spaces in the Redford / Brightmoor area. Live art, performances pieces and scores of musical performances populate this unique and nifty event. Plus, it's pay as you can for tickets, which means there's really no reason why you shouldn't be able to check it out. [CoreDetroit]

WEST VILLAGE — There are no "Open" signs on the four redeveloped spaces on Agnes Street, but Craftwork, Detroit Vegan Soul, the Red Hook and Tarot & Tea are still well on their way to build-out fulfillment. Their spring 2013 openings have clearly been cast aside (they might even miss summer with the weather we've been having lately) but the owners and chefs behind this quartet of cuisine pioneers think soon is coming sooner rather than later. FERNDALE — Since it seems like nearly every food, food group and cuisine has an official day or month or week these days (Ice Cream Month! Hot Dog Day! Cheesecake Day!), it shouldn't be all that surprising that tomorrow is Mead Day. Nicole Rupersberg at Eat it Detroit has the inside scoop on just what mead means for the uninitiated — hint: it's an "alcoholic beverage made from fermented honey" — and Ferndale's B. Nektar Meadery (which is rumored to be moving toward a brewing license for beer) is having a Summer Mead Fest tomorrow to celebrate their fifth anniversary in business. There's more than just B. Nektar making mead in the metro area, which is exciting stuff for all. [Eat It Detroit]
