It's time to leave the cocktail-centric neighborhoods of Logan, Dupont, Shaw, Chinatown, H Street and Bloomingdale — to name a few — and check out other drink-loving neighborhoods in D.C. As a side note, Marion Barry continues to capture the cocktail-naming minds of bartenders. Drinks named after the former mayor appear more than once on this list.

In the Union Market vicinity, it's fun to grab a drink at Bidwell – the sit-down restaurant inside the market. The Merry and Berry (a clever play on the infamous D.C. mayor) has gin, lemon, blueberry and blackberry jams all in one drink.

Due South

While this new entry to Navy Yard is loved from its Nashville hot chicken, the cocktails here shouldn't be overlooked either. All the drinks have an appropriately Southern name.

Jos. A Magnus & Co

Deep in the heart of booming Ivy City lies a distillery that started in 1892 and got going again in 2015. The drinks are always changing, so there's something new to discover on every visit.

Macon Bistro & Larder

In Chevy Chase, the one and a half year old Macon Bistro & Larder isn't stale, especally when it comes to its ever-changing cocktail selection. Right now, there's Victor's Vector with habanero bitters and cherry-lime syrup that has an other-worldly color. It's definitely worth a few rounds of these.

Woodridge just got its first sit-down restaurant when Nido arrived on the scene. And that means the neighborhood also has its first place for enjoying cocktails.

Simple Bar & Grill

An outpost in Brightwood, this sports bar keeps things really simple. Don't expect infusions or hard-to-find syrups, but the basics definitely deliver- with a sense of humor at that.

Smith Public Trust

Brookland is definitely humming along with restaurant news, but one of the early birds to the scene is Smith Public Trust. There are plenty of classic cocktails to enjoy, such as the rum-based Cuban Missile Crisis and rye-based Crash of October '29.

Sur la Place

Sur la Place is a very classic restaurant with a very classic feel. The cocktails are also as classic as they come, like its old fashioned Old Fashioned.

How does drinking the vodka and rum drink called the FLOTUS sound? Or the MLK - The Dream with two cognacs? Or yet another drink named after Marion Barry called the (you guessed it) the Marion Barry? All these and more are available at Anacostia's Uniontown Bar and Grill.

Near the Potomac Avenue Metro stop, Wisdom offers its eastern Capitol Hill customers cleverly named cocktails, like the It's Always Sunny using Philadelphia's Bluecoat Gin and Pears of Wisdom with pear vodka.
