Michelle Obama Has Dinner at the Dabney

A tipster tells Eater that former first lady and dining enthusiast Michelle Obama had dinner June 13 at the Michelin-starred Dabney. Eater‘s source says its Obama’s second visit in as many years; she evidently popped in last year with former White House chef and Let’s Move contributor Sam Kass.

Expansions

Rapidly expanding chain Poki District is giving away food to the first 50 customers in line at the new Gaithersburg location (236 Boardwalk Place) opening on Saturday, June 16. The fast-casual restaurant has two locations in D.C., with additional outposts in the works around Maryland and Virginia.

Over in Glover Park, Popville reports that Georgetown chicken wing source Wingo’s is taking over the space formerly occupied by Mad Fox Taproom. Whereas its current location is more of a late-night carryout, Wingo’s is apparently keeping Mad Fox’s liquor license and giving a full-service restaurant a try.

Coming attractions

Vacationers who spend time on Maryland’s Eastern Shore will soon have a new whiskey den to unwind in. The forthcoming Stewart (3 Federal Street, Easton, Md.) plans to serve Scotch, Champagne, and caviar at its 26-seat lounge. The Stewart is projected to open later this month.

Meanwhile, Real estate developer JBG Smith is interested in erecting two new restaurants with airy, naturalistic designs in Crystal City. Washington Business Journal reports that the prospective “greenhouse” and “tree house” ventures would be located inside a dedicated green space surrounded by office buildings.
