Long live the free lunch
BGR The Burger Joint, a homegrown chain originally conceived by Medium Rare/Community founder Mark Bucher, is celebrating its grand opening in Mosaic District by giving away free burgers to the first 500 customers. The burger spot enters a crowded field of restaurants that feature their own takes on specialty burgers, including B Side, Alta Strada, Matchbox, Ted’s Bulletin, True Food Kitchen, and Brine. Off the Record surfaces for the summer
The Hay-Adams is moving iconic cocktail den Off the Record into the Hay-Adams room on the lobby level from Monday, August 7 through Monday, September 4 while the bar is being rebuilt. A spokeswoman assures Eater the storied subterranean bar will return this fall looking “exactly as it did before with the same menu.”
Summer Restaurant Week returns mid-August
Sticking around the swamp this August? Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington has announced that its biannual, prix fixe dining promotion will return from Monday, August 14 through Sunday, August 20. The list of participating restaurants is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, July 11.
Astrolabe Brewing eyes winter opening
East MoCo and Bethesda Magazine report that entrepreneurs Emma Whelan and Matt Cronin plan to open Astrolabe Brewing this winter in a former record shop (8216 Georgia Avenue). The forthcoming brewery, which will be just blocks away from neighboring Denizens Brewing Co., is expected to have a production brewery, tap room, and patio. [EMC, Bethesda]
