Honors Cords
As of Spring 2024, the College of Science will no longer hold Honors Convocation or distribute honors cords on an annual basis.
The college now awards bachelor’s degree Latin honors to graduating students according to the policy below.
Graduating students in the fall and spring will qualify for a cord representing Latin honors if they meet the following requirements:
- The student has applied for degree candidacy, and
- has completed at least 45 graded units of University Credit, ending with the previous term, that carry a cumulative grade-point-average within the levels below.
These levels represent superior scholarship in work leading to the bachelor's degree:
Summa Cum Laude: 3.900-4.000
Magna Cum Laude: 3.700-3.899
Cum Laude: 3.500-3.699
The College of Science will notify all students eligible to receive a cord for Latin honors via email.
Students may pick up cords in the Gould-Simpson Building Lobby on the dates and times below:
- October 28, 2024: 1pm – 4pm
- October 29, 2024: 9am – 11am
- October 30, 2024: 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 4pm
Note: receiving a cord before commencement does not guarantee Latin honors. The official honor that appears on the transcript and diploma of the recipient depends on the degree conferral grade-point-average which includes final grades for the current semester.
