Paul Hendricks

Paul comes to The Conservation Alliance having worked in the fields of conservation and corporate sustainability for over 15 years. Throughout that time he has driven efforts to advance action, standards, and innovation in the academic, non-profit, and corporate sectors. Prior to The Conservation Alliance, Paul worked at Rivian and Patagonia where he helped build the companies’ climate, responsible sourcing, environmental advocacy, and philanthropic programs. He has also taught at the University of Colorado and UC Berkeley, where he focused on equipping the next generation of leaders with the tools to make business a force for positive impact on social and environmental issues.

Paul earned his undergraduate degree in Business, Spanish, and Secondary Education from Hope College then went on to earn a MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago, and a Graduate Certificate in Sustainability from Harvard. While he grew up exploring the forests and lakes of Northern Michigan he is now based in Golden, Colorado where he spends his time running, climbing, and exploring our public lands with his wife and two kids.

Shoren Brown

Vice President, Public Affairs

Shoren grew up exploring the swamps of southern Louisiana where he developed a strong connection with rural people and places, fishing, wild country, and Saints football. He has a long history of building and running successful campaigns that include people from all walks of life and both sides of the aisle. Shoren was the architect of the federal campaign to protect Bristol Bay, Alaska, ran the national field program for the campaign that protected the Arctic Refuge, and worked on a number of successful campaigns across the West. Most recently consulted for NGOs, private corporations, and charitable foundations. Shoren earned a master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Natural Resource Conflict Resolution from the University of Montana where he studied as a Doris Duke Conservation Fellow. He currently lives in Montana with his wife, son, and Dixie the dog.

Rebecca Gillis

Senior Director of Advocacy and Outreach

Rebecca Gillis is the Senior Director of Advocacy and Outreach at The Conservation Alliance. In her role, she works alongside her colleagues and TCA members to build and activate advocacy networks to promote and meet the organization’s conservation goals across the country. She is based in Boulder, Colorado.

Formerly, Rebecca was state and local government affairs manager for Outdoor Industry Association (OIA). On behalf of the $862 billion outdoor recreation economy, Gillis worked with members – including manufacturers, retailers, and suppliers – partner stakeholder groups, and state-level policymakers to promote the organization’s policy agenda on climate, outdoor access, public lands and waters, and strengthening state and local outdoor economies.

Gillis also worked for former Governor John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock as a lead business development manager in their economic development agencies. Rebecca specialized in business recruitment, retention, and expansion across a number of sectors, including the outdoor industry.

Raised in Golden, Colo., she received her B.A. from Metropolitan State University of Denver and her M.A. in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Rebecca has a deep passion for the outdoors and is a firm believer in nature’s potential to heal human hearts, souls, and minds. She enjoys trail running, hiking, cross-country skiing, cycling, live music, speaking foreign languages, traveling (she’s been to six continents), and reading all the nonfiction she can get her hands on.

Kelly Campbell

Director of Finance and Operations

Kelly Campbell is the Director of Operations & Finance at The Conservation Alliance with 15+ years of operations experience. As an outgoing people person who loves mission-driven work and building relationships, she’s so happy to be part of the amazing team at TCA.

Kelly has a degree in theater from the University of Nebraska and an MBA from University of Colorado Denver. This unconventional combination is the result of a brain that is equally drawn to the creative expression of human complexity and to spreadsheets. She finds that her work in operations is a fusion of these two spheres: people-centered problem solving and business-driven analysis.

Prior to joining TCA in 2022, Kelly ran operations for Teach for America Colorado and Nickelodeon. From beaches and ocean access in California to the streams and lakes of her native Colorado, Kelly loves to be on the water whenever possible. She currently lives in Loveland, Colorado and is so excited to be back home near family and all the amazing outdoor adventures Colorado offers.

Carla Fox

Carla Fox (she/her) joins the Conservation Alliance after 10 years working at the intersection of business, philanthropy, and the environment. Most recently she served as Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for Public Lands, a brand of DICK’s Sporting Goods, and led the Public Lands Fund. Prior to that, she was the Director of Business Membership and led membership and philanthropy advising activities for 5 years at 1% for the Planet. Carla earned a Masters in Sustainability Leadership from University of Vermont and a B.S. in Communications from Cornell University. Carla lives in the Adirondacks, NY (Mohican and Mohawk land) with her husband and daughter where they enjoy fishing, biking and exploring local parks. She is an avid birder working on her life list and sometimes gets out for a round of golf.

Kim Paymaster

Grant Program Director

Kim comes to The Conservation Alliance with a passion for working with local organizations to increase access and equity. She previously served as a Program Officer at the Pew Charitable Trusts where she supported a wide array of social service organizations, managed a sports-based youth development organization, and supported community-based juvenile justice programs. Kim is a board member of the Scattergood Foundation which strives to create a more inclusive society where behavioral health is central and of ECHO Systems, a local organization focused on decreasing waste and bolstering the circular economy. She is also the chair of the Plastics Reduction Task Force at Weaver’s Way Co-op and is an active member of Circular Philadelphia. Kim currently lives in Philadelphia with her husband and daughter, where they take advantage of city life while looking for opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. She loves yoga, climbing, camping, being on the water, and exploring with her family.

Lilly Zoller

Director of Marketing and Communications

Lilly joins the Conservation Alliance after over a decade of working with environmental advocacy organizations on communications, marketing, and fundraising. Most recently she was the Digital Director at Conservation Colorado, where she managed and implemented digital marketing strategy for federal, state, and local policy campaigns to reduce air and water pollution, conserve public lands, protect public health, and advance environmental justice. Lilly earned a Masters in Environmental Management from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University and a B.A. in environmental science from the University of Michigan. She currently lives in Colorado with her husband, two kids, and dog.

Bridgette Windell

Public Lands Advocacy Coordinator

Bridgette joined the Conservation Alliance as the Public Lands Advocacy Coordinator through the Wyss Fellowship Program. Growing up in Colorado, Bridgette developed her love for the outdoors through hiking, skiing, biking, and most of all rafting the West’s many iconic rivers. She brings a background in communications and public engagement and has worked with public and private agencies ranging from the National Park Service to New Belgium Brewing. Bridgette earned a masters degree in Conservation Leadership from Colorado State University where she focused on conservation easements for private lands as a tool for conservation. You can often find her on skis or on the river with her partner and 2 pups and is excited to explore Montana, her new homebase.

Annie Nyborg

Chair – Peak Design

Annie is the Head of Environmental and Social Impact for Peak Design, a San Francisco-based product design company, and certified B Corp. She oversees the company’s environmental and social initiatives including supply chain standards, policy advocacy, 1% for the Planet giving, carbon footprinting and reduction, and DEI programming. She was also a founding team member of Climate Neutral, an organization aimed at helping companies measure, reduce, and offset their carbon emissions. After spending 15 years in the Bay Area, she moved back home to Ojai, CA, with her family where she’s enjoying the slower pace of life and the beautiful trails.

Kate Larramendy

Vice Chair – Toad&Co

Kate has a long history in the outdoor industry, beginning with 16 years as the Design Director at Patagonia followed by nine years as the Director of Design and Sustainability for Toad&Co. Kate spent many years as Toad&Co’s Conservation Alliance ambassador engaging her colleagues in conservation issues and participating in our annual trip to Washington, DC. She is a founding member of the Ventura Hillsides Conservancy, now the Ventura Land Trust, and produced the Ventura Hillsides Music Festival for a decade. When she’s not working, Kate enjoys the good life – travel, food, dogs, natural beauty, and surfing outside her front door.

Amy Beck

Secretary – Oboz Footwear

Amy is the President of Oboz Footwear and Kathmandu North America. Amy has spent the last 14 years working in the outdoor industry-leading sales, marketing, and GTM strategies. Amy spent 11 years at Smartwool as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and before joining Waypoint she was the Vice President of Wholesale for Lucy Activewear. She loves working in the outdoor industry and is inspired by the people in it. She is grateful for the relationships she has built with her retail partners and industry colleagues. Amy is originally from the Midwest but has spent the last 14 years west of the Mississippi living in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and now in the Oakland Hills. Amy is and outdoor enthusiast and loves animals, yoga, skiing, biking, and hiking, and live music.

Jim Swanson

Treasurer – Columbia Sportswear

Jim Swanson joined Columbia Sportswear in 2003 and was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in November 2020. From 2017 to 2020 Mr. Swanson served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Swanson joined Columbia Sportswear in April 2003 as Global Senior Financial Analyst and has served in numerous roles of increasing responsibility during his tenure, being named Vice President of Finance in May 2015. Prior to joining Columbia, Mr. Swanson served in a variety of financial planning and analysis, tax, and accounting roles, including senior financial analyst at Freightliner Corporation and at Tality Corporation – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cadence Design Systems, and as a senior tax and business advisory associate at Arthur Andersen.

Wes Carter

Atlantic Packaging

Wes Carter is the third-generation leader of Atlantic Packaging. The company’s origin traces back to his grandfather, W. Horace Carter, and its history of culture and community is as ingrained in Wes’ personal story as it is in his professional career. As a lifelong surfer, traveler, and outdoorsman, Wes’s link with the global surfing community helps connect the pieces between the ambassadors of the ocean and the leaders in the packaging supply chain who can enact this change. He launched A New Earth Project in January of 2020 to be the inspiration driving this movement into the future.

Misha Charles

Maluti Skingear

Misha Charles is the founder of Maluti Skingear. Her passion for the outdoors is inspired by a life-changing, 10-month career sabbatical spent exploring the Colorado Rockies. Her interest in skincare and health is deeply personal—driven by challenges with her own skin. Misha’s 20-year career spans the education, technology startup, and outdoor recreation spaces. A jack of all trades, she has significant experience at the intersection of strategy, program design and operations, and leadership and organizational development. Misha lives with her spouse in Colorado where she enjoys weekend adventures and photography above 12,000 feet. She serves on the Boards of High Mountain Institute and Conservation Colorado.

Lindsey Davis

SITKA Gear

Lindsey is the Director of Conservation and Advocacy at SITKA Gear. She serves on the board of directors for the Outdoor Alliance, and is a founding board member of the Utah Wildlife Federation. She is the author of Modern Huntsman’s column, ‘A Guide To the Modern Wild,’ and a member of the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation’s Advisory Committee. She is also a brand ambassador for Mystery Ranch, SITKA Gear, and Swarovski Optik, and is a volunteer citizen scientist. Lindsey’s background is in strategic development in the for and non-profit sectors. She also founded a company called Wylder. For five years she served as Wylder’s CEO, running the only online women’s specific retailer in the outdoor industry, and the first female-founded benefit corporation in the state of Utah. During this time she graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.

Alicia Harvie

REI Co-op

Alicia Harvie leads the Community & Government Affairs Team at REI Co-op, advancing its policy agenda across its climate, equity and public lands portfolio. She enjoys working alongside the co-op’s vast network of nonprofit, industry and government partners in catalyzing unique partnerships that leverage the best of the REI brand and community to drive social impact. Alicia also launched and oversees REI’s Cooperative Action Network, a civic engagement program that mobilizes its 24 million members and 15,000 employees in the fight for life outside. Alicia serves on the Business Advisory Council for Business for America, a nonpartisan nonprofit business organization that focuses solely on improving our country’s civic health, and the U.S. Stakeholder Council for 1t.org, committed to reaching the global goal of creating healthy and resilient forests. When not working, she enjoys kayaking Puget Sound or hiking in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her family.

Ben MacAskill

Awesome

Ben MacAskill is President & COO of Awesome, a family-owned and operated company with a singular mission: building a better world through the power of photography. He helped found SmugMug more than two decades ago to provide professional photographers an unrivaled platform for their businesses, and acquired beloved photography hub Flickr in 2018 to ensure a creative home for photographers everywhere. Today, Awesome also includes the photography network powerhouse This Week in Photo, and the nonprofit Flickr Foundation, dedicated to the preservation of earth’s largest and most important collection of publicly available photography.

Peter Metcalf

Wildlands Policy Institute and Consulting

Peter is the founder of Black Diamond Equipment, a global leader in the design and production of innovative equipment and apparel that allows its customers to better navigate the vertical world of snow, ice, and rock. Peter created BD in the 1980’s to “make a difference for a fellow community of technical outdoor enthusiasts” through both innovative gear and by championing the issues of great importance – such as access and the preservation & stewardship of the wild places we ply our craft. Peter resides, with his wife, Kathleen, in Park City, Utah; remains a passionate rock climber and alpinist; serves as a Director of the Federal Reserve; and is highly involved in public policy land issues in the West.

Russell Rowell

KELTY

Russ is the Sr. Vice President and General Manager at Kelty. He brings 30 years of outdoor industry experience to the Conservation Alliance. His background includes managing specialty climbing and backcountry ski shops, and directing the marketing and product development efforts for several legacy outdoor brands. For fun, Russ loves winter sports, fly fishing, hiking, and camping with his family.

Keith Shattenkirk

Patagonia

Keith Shattenkirk is Patagonia’s Healthy Lands & Waters Program Officer, helping manage Patagonia’s environmental grantmaking efforts in alignment with Patagonia’s purpose to “Protect Our Home Planet.” Keith informs the company’s environmental priorities, facilitates employee-based grantmaking activities, and implements strategic funding opportunities that advance durable protections on landscapes rich in biodiversity, climate resilience, and recreation opportunities. Keith also currently serves on the Business Advisory Council for the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, providing recommendations for sustainable use and responsible recreation within the Sanctuary system. When not behind a desk, Keith enjoys spending time with his family outdoors, exploring all the recreation opportunities southern California has to offer.

Soraya Shattuck

Adventure Travel Conservation Fund

Soraya is the Executive Director at the Adventure Travel Conservation Fund. She has a demonstrated history of working with international organizations and communities to integrate diverse conservation and sustainable strategies that support the local economy and help to preserve the natural environment. She brings a unique understanding of local, national, and international challenges around conservation, as well as experience in grant administration, partnering with grassroots organizations, fundraising, and donor engagement.

Carol Shu

The North Face

Carol is the Senior Manager of Global Sustainability at The North Face, where her work ranges from retail waste to sustainable products and materials. She collaborates with cross-functional teams across the brand to action on TNF’s sustainability strategy and goals. She is a textiles enthusiast and loves handcrafts, including weaving and natural dyeing. She co-founded Aggie Reuse Store, a creative reuse store housed at UC Davis’ EcoHub that is dedicated to diverting waste and upcycling. Originally from California and now based in Colorado, her favorite outdoor places are in California, especially the redwood forests along the coast.

Dana Villeneuve

New Belgium Brewing

Dana Villeneuve specializes in policy, advocacy, and operational sustainability at New Belgium Brewing. In her role, she strives to minimize the brewery’s impact on the planet and leverage New Belgium’s platform to advance policies which safeguard protection and access for public lands & waters, assure equitable treatment for all, and mitigate carbon emissions at the local, state & federal level. Originally hailing from the Adirondack Mountains of New York, Dana has proudly called Colorado home for about 20 years. She spends her free time on her bike, on the water, and on the trail with her husband & their dog, listening to good music & nerdy podcasts, and finding opportunities to share her love of people & planet with her nieces & nephews.
