English: A Rajput (from Sanskrit raja-putra, "son of a king") is a large multi-component cluster of castes, kin bodies, and local groups, sharing social status and ideology of genealogical descent originating from the Indian subcontinent. The four clans, namely the Pratiharas (Pariharas), Solankis (Chaulukyas), Paramaras (Parmars), and Chauhans (Chahamanas) rose to prominence first. Rajputs ruled more than four hundred of the estimated six hundred princely states at the time of India's independence in 1947.

Origin

[edit]

The origin of the Rajputs is thus related. The rajas, not satisfied with their married wives, had frequently children by their female slaves, who, although not legitimate successors to the throne, were styled Rajputs.

Modern historians are more or less agreed that the Rajputs consisted of miscellaneous groups including Shudras and tribals. Some were brahmans who took to warfare, and some were from tribes-indigenous or foreign.

Yadavs or Yadavas or Yaduvanshi are not Rajputs, Yaduvanshi/Yadavs are Ahirs. Rajputs are diverse cluster evolving from various Shudra,Dalits, Chamars and some were from tribes-indigenous or foreign.
