Caillou Wiki

Here are the banned episodes for the first and second seasons of the Caillou series. Just like crying clips, this is also a major reason why the show received a huge amount of backlash from the audience. In 2006, 11 episodes were banned so PBS Kids could make the show more watchable and enjoyable. On January 5, 2021, Caillou was removed from PBS Kids after 20 years, after they lost broadcast rights to the show. Reruns of Caillou aired on Cartoonito from September 13, 2021 until May 4, 2022. Caillou moved from Cartoonito to Peacock on February 15, 2024, in the form of a reboot, except the original series.

However, in 2024 when The Roku Channel acquired a 24/7 Caillou channel by WildBrain[1], all the 'banned' episodes can be viewed uncut.

Caillou (1997–2010)[]

Season 1[]

Here are the episodes that are banned and later banned episodes in the first season and why.

  • Caillou Joins the Circus - It was restricted due to Caillou having a tantrum over not knowing that the circus was tomorrow, not today, and he then broke one of the wheels off his toy car and he pounded the floor, causing Rosie to be awoken by her brother's tantrum. Thankfully, Caillou learned his lesson by doing circus-related activities with his family. Note that it was only banned on PBS Kids in the United States[citation needed], Cartoonito left this episode intact with its sister segments, and Teletoon and Family Jr. never removed this episode.
  • Big Brother Caillou - It was banned due to Caillou angrily pinching Rosie on the cheek (due to him not liking her at first, but he learned his lesson that she's just a baby anyway). However, Cartoonito had aired the episode, marking the episode's premiere in the United States, but without the pinching scene.
  • Caillou Goes Around the Block - It was permanently private because Caillou's mom leaves him unattended (due to her sleeping) and he wanders around the neighborhood by himself (thankfully, Caillou got walked back by someone who his mom knows). Despite the private episode, footage can be seen in the intro.
  • Caillou Makes a New Friend - It was prohibited due to Jim's bullying being a bit too intense (although Jim learned his lesson).
  • Caillou's Quarrel - It was later banned in 2006 due to Caillou being too rough with Clementine (though he apologized to Clementine). However, the episode aired on Cartoonito, but with most of Caillou's anger at Clementine being cut out, going directly to Caillou telling her he doesn't want to play anymore after Clementine suggests the tea party. This has the side effect of turning the "quarrel" into more of a mild disagreement, rendering the episode pretty much meaningless.
  • Caillou's Getting Older - It was later banned in 2006 because of the subjects of death and fear of getting older and a dead bird appearing on-screen.
  • Caillou Watches Rosie - It was later banned in 2006 due to Caillou being unfairly blamed for Rosie's behavior (though she's little). And also because of Rosie hitting Caillou three times.
  • Rosie Bothers Caillou - It was later banned in 2006 due to a lot of screaming and yelling in this episode, Caillou violently talking back to his mother, a scene where an angry Caillou pushes Rosie out of his room, Rosie cries, bangs on Caillou's door to let him back in, and hits a book against a door repeatedly, and Doris grabs the book from Rosie's hand and then yells, "Books are for reading, not for hitting!", Doris then knocks on the door to let Caillou back in, she didn't realize that he made her cry, while she continues to throw a temper tantrum, Rosie is sorry for Doris, as the mom takes her straight back to her room for a nap (despite the ending, where Caillou learns that playing with Rosie is fun).

Season 2[]

Here are the episodes that are banned and later banned episodes in the second season and why.

  • Hide and Seek - It was later banned in 2006 due to Caillou being aggressive taking his toys from Rosie and making her cry. Also, being mean to parents too about Rosie taking all of his toys.
  • Caillou's Cross Word - This episode was later banned in 2006, after being previously banned from the rotation on PBS and Sprout (now renamed as Universal Kids) after the original broadcast on the network because the word "stupid" can be hurtful and was used ten times in the episode. However, it was shown during reruns a few times in 2003.
  • Caillou's Promise - This episode was later banned in 2006 because Caillou furiously threw sand in Rosie's eyes, causing her to cry and him having his bad behavior. And also, angrily prohibiting her from going to circus at lunchtime at his house.
