Matt!’s review published on Letterboxd:
You know how people get spun up whenever actors in horror movies go completely unnoticed by the Academy? Remember all those “Justice for Toni Collette!” and “Give Mia Goth her Oscar!” tweets? Well let it be known here and now that I will fucking January 6th the Dolby Theatre if Willa Fitzgerald isn’t bestowed with, at minimum, a goddamn key to the gates of Hollywood. I’m not even close to joking. A career-defining performance that should be splattered with praise. Try me, voters, you senile old fucks. Go ahead, nominate another white bread windbag biopic instead, I dare you.
This thing is absolutely the surprise banger of the year. “Flips your expectations upside down!” and “go in totally blind!” and all those other vague cliche statements. Even discussing the thematic elements would give away half the plot. If you like Barbarian or just cool movies in general, this is for you. Details are for scrubs. Thank me later.
Also, who gives a shit that this is shot on 35mm. Freakin’ Giovanni Ribisi is the cinematographer?! There’s your future Tuesday night bar trivia question right there.
“You know, you’re a little fucked up?”
Hell yeah. Pretty bitchin’ serial killer name, too.
