Somerville already has an ax-throwing bar and an oatmeal cafe. What’s next? An avocado restaurant.

Avocados headline the menu at a fast-casual vegetarian restaurant that’s in the works for Somerville’s Teele Square neighborhood: Green Mama. Founder Jose Barriga has launched a MainVest investment campaign to fund the purchase and sprucing up of the House of Tibet restaurant space at 235 Holland Ave. to turn it into Green Mama.

If everything works out with the funding, Green Mama will be an entirely vegetarian restaurant serving a variety of avocado toasts and grain bowls, Barriga told Eater, and there will be vegan and gluten-free options. The grain options will include brown rice, quinoa, and possibly farro, Barriga said.

Barriga is director of the Cambridge Food Lab, an organization that helps food entrepreneurs with business skills. Now, he’ll take his experience in areas of marketing, finance, and leadership to Green Mama.

Barriga anticipates minimal changes to the space, once the purchase agreement is finalized; mainly, there will be painting and new design elements. The timing of the opening largely depends on the funds raised, but Green Mama’s campaign runs through mid-October. Stay tuned for updates as plans unfold.
