A Hyde Park restaurant that’s operated in the neighborhood since 2013 closed its doors this week. The Fairmount Grille (81 Fairmount Ave., Boston) shut down Monday, September 16, according to multiple reports. Hyde Park Main Streets confirmed the closure in a Facebook post, adding that it is a “tremendous loss to the community.”
The Fairmount Grille opened in June 2013, taking over where Townsend’s had operated. Owner Chris Rassias aimed to provide an upscale dining experience for customers, but with affordable, neighborhood prices. Recently, Rassias had planned to open a 1920s-themed restaurant in Worcester, but plans fell through due to financing challenges.
The Fairmount Grille served dishes like roasted beet and goat cheese salad, dijon-encrusted salmon, vegetable dumplings, pulled pork sandwiches, and sirloin salad. It also had weekend brunch, with items like chicken and waffles and crispy fried French toast. In warmer months, the Fairmount Grille operated a patio in addition to its main dining area and upstairs function room.
As the Fairmount Grille leaves the neighborhood, several dining staples do remain, including Antonio’s Bacaro, Farah’s Cafe Restaurant, Rincon Caribeno, and Zaz Restaurant, among others.
