Ciao! Pizza & Pasta already has a solid foothold in Chelsea thanks to its acclaimed Neapolitan pizza, and now owners Edson Coimbra and Marvin Posada have new plans to extend their area presence: Ciao! Market and Winnisimmet Lounge are on the way, bringing retail options and small plates to the neighborhood, as Boston Magazine reported.
Ciao! Market is slated to open at 212 Broadway in a space that was formerly home to a convenience store. There, the duo reportedly plans to produce fresh pasta and offer retail goods. Meanwhile, in a space near Ciao! Pizza & Pasta, they will open Winnisimmet Lounge, which will serve piattini, or small plates, with a full bar.
The market will open first, most likely this summer, Coimbra told Boston. In addition to a place where pasta will be made, the market will be a retail space with gelato, pastries, and espresso available. Winnisimmet Lounge will take longer, opening within the next year and a half.
Ciao opened in September 2015 at 59 Williams St. in Chelsea, and the tiny restaurant has quickly built up a reputation for its excellent pizza. In a December 2016 review for The Boston Globe, Catherine Smart called it “the best Neapolitan pie in the Boston area. Maybe anywhere outside of Italy.” The Improper Bostonian’s MC Slim JB named it among the best newcomers of 2016 (give or take a few months) in the Eater Boston year-end survey of local food writers. And, for what it’s worth, Ciao currently maintains a five-star average over more than 200 reviews on Yelp.
