Biography
Hall-Harper obtained a B.A. in political science and a master's degree in science management. She has worked as an intake counselor for the Tulsa County Juvenile Bureau of the District Court and as a community programs coordinator for the Tulsa County Comprehensive Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Program.[1]

The mayor and nine seats on the Tulsa City Council were up for election in 2016. The filing deadline was April 13, 2016, and there was a primary election on June 28, 2016. A candidate was able to win a seat outright in the primary by winning 50 percent or more of the vote. A general election was held on November 8, 2016, for races with two candidates or races where no candidates received 50 percent of the primary vote. Vanessa Hall-Harper defeated incumbent Jack Ross Henderson in the Tulsa City Council District 1 general election.[2]

2014
The city of Tulsa, Oklahoma held nonpartisan city council elections on November 4, 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014, for races in which more than two candidates filed to run. Because one candidate received a majority of the votes in the primary election for District 1, its general election was called off. Incumbent Jack Ross Henderson defeated Denis Palmer and Vanessa Hall-Harper.[3][4]
