2016

The following issues were listed on Nikolova's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Investing in Idaho's Students: Attracting talented individuals to Idaho is important. Showing our in-state talented individuals that they are appreciated is equally as important. It's my mission to invest in Idaho's students and make sure that all students have an opportunity to succeed in Idaho's school system.
  • Student Debt and Education: As college costs are rising, students in the United States are taking out an enormous amount of debt to finance their future and education. The high interest rates on these long term loans mean that students end up paying even higher costs to finance their education and end up delaying any investment of funds into the economy for decades. The interest rates on student loans make it more difficult to pay off student loans and keep students from purchasing property and durable/ non-durable goods.
  • The Environment: Pollution is a pervasive problem and managing pollution is becoming increasingly difficult as technological advances grow. Pollution costs more money to manage. It costs business more money to be environmentally friendly, and you see so many advocates of lessoning regulations in favor of capitalism, but we need to remember the stakes in the decisions we make today.
  • Minimum Wage: I propose a plan that would being raising the minimum wage fifty cents every year for the next ten years after an initial raise to a minimum wage of $9.50 to help American minimum wage catch up to inflation. The last fifty years has seen a shift from industrial and factory jobs to customer service positions. While unions existed to protect workers in industrial work maintain their rights, we don't have a system in place to help protect those newly rising service industry workers.
  • Balancing the Budget: I'm going to put this as plainly as possible: we need to begin spending more responsibly. We also need to start taxing more responsibly... We need real conversations and real solutions to finding a good (and timely) budget for our country. I don't like to waste my money on principle, and I don't like it when someone else wastes the taxes I pay into the government to maintain the programs that are necessary for a country as large as the United States to run.[4]
