Magnet schools, sometimes called theme-based schools, are public schools of choice that use specialized subject areas or innovative learning approaches to attract students from diverse backgrounds.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the 2013-2014 school year, there were 3,254 magnet schools in the United States. Magnet schools enrolled 2,549,825 students nationwide.
  • Between the 2011-2012 and 2013-2014 school year, the number of magnet schools nationwide increased by 305, or 10.3 percent.
  • In the 2013-2014 school year, Florida was home to more magnet schools than any other state. Florida's 495 magnet schools enrolled 561,529 students.
