Collapse all
|Elizabeth "Liz" Johnson has lived in Georgia's 12th District since 1996. She has many years of business, political, and speaking experience and has launched several empowerment initiatives for women. For over 20 years, she has been an active member of the Georgia Democratic Party, and she has served in numerous county, state and national roles. Liz founded the Georgia Federation of Democratic Women (GFDW) Chapter of Bulloch County and was its President for three years. During that time, she was also the 2nd Vice President of the State Chapter. Liz is a proven leader in her community having been an officer or board member of numerous civic and community organizations.
- I stand firm against voter suppression in any of its many forms. We must protect our fundamental right to vote. Voter registration and our elections must be fair and easily accessible to all.
- I am committed to supporting legislation that focuses on an economy that works for all. Workers in Georgia's 12th and across the U.S. deserve living wages and job benefits that allow them to meet basic needs, save and invest for retirement, and maintain a healthy balance between their working hours and family lives.
- I support access to quality healthcare for all. Regardless of a person's background, economic standing, or stage of life, everyone deserves access to treatment for illnesses and preventative health care. Quality health care for all is feasible and achievable when we come together and make it a priority.
As a member of Congress, I will support plans for investing in the people. We can build a robust economy that flourishes in good times and withstands crisis when we empower people.
Healthcare is a human right. Everyone deserves the security that comes from affordable, quality healthcare. As we move to provide healthcare for all citizens, we need to keep these things in mind: 1) We must make sure that the 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions are protected. We have over 40,000 children in Georgia's 12th District alone with pre-existing conditions. 2) We must make sure that insurance plans cover essential benefits such as maternity and newborn care, preventative care, and mental health services. 3) We must make sure that prescription drug costs are kept under control.
As of 2020, more than 20% of the 12th District is in poverty. Georgia's child poverty rate is almost 23%. We desperately need good paying, high quality jobs in the 12th and we need to support small businesses. We must invest in the people through: 1) education by providing universal free pre-K for all children and debt-free technical and higher education; 2) supporting the organization of unions and their collective bargaining power; 3) living wages because our working families deserve a decent standard of living, not the constant threat of poverty; and 4) planning for a better tomorrow with infrastructure improvements and jobs that build a sustainable future.
