Karen Williams was a member of the District of Columbia State Board of Education, representing Ward 7. Williams assumed office on January 2, 2013. Williams left office on January 2, 2021.
Williams ran for re-election to the District of Columbia State Board of Education to represent Ward 7. Williams lost in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Biography
As of November 2017, Williams was the director of an early childhood education center. Prior to that, she was an elementary special education teacher in the district's public school system. Williams had previously worked with the Washington Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs and the Washington Parent Fund Group as an executive assistant and grant administrator. Before that, Williams was an officer with the United States Park Police, where she was involved in the creation of the Community Relations Unit and a partnership with the D.C. Special Olympics. She came to the park police from St. John's Child Development Center, where she had worked as a special education teacher.[1]

Political career
District of Columbia State Board of Education (2013-2021)
Williams was first elected to the board in November 2012, unseating incumbent Dorothy Douglas. Williams was re-elected in 2016. On January 18, 2017, Williams was elected to a one-year term as the board's president.[1]
