Elections for the Idaho State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 14, 2014.
Following the general election, there was no change to the majority control of the Idaho State Senate. There was no change to the composition of the chamber, with the Republican Party maintaining their 28 seats, and the Democratic Party maintaining their seven.

Qualifications
Article III, Section 6 of the Idaho Constitution states: No person shall be a senator or representative who, at the time of his election, is not a citizen of the United States, and an elector of this state, nor anyone who has not been for one year next preceding his election an elector of the county or district whence he may be chosen.
Competitiveness
Candidates unopposed by a major party
In 19 of the 35 districts up for election in 2014, there was only one major party candidate running for election. One Democrat and 18 Republicans were guaranteed election barring unforeseen circumstances.
Two major party candidates faced off in the general election in 16 of the 35 districts up for election. Two of those seats held competitive elections in 2012 with a margin of victory ranging from 0 to 5 percent. One other election was mildly competitive, with a margin of victory of 5 to 10 percent. Those districts were:
Competitive
- District 5: Incumbent Dan J. Schmidt (D) defeated John Carlson (R) in the general election. Schmidt won by a margin of victory of 2 percent in 2012.
- District 15: Incumbent Fred S. Martin (R) defeated Richard Keller (D) in the general election. Martin won by a margin of victory of 4 percent in 2012.
Mildly Competitive
- District 18: Incumbent Janie Ward-Engelking (D) defeated Edward Dindinger (R) in the general election. Ward-Engelking won by a margin of victory of 7 percent in 2012.
Primary challenges
A total of nine incumbents faced primary competition on May 20. Four incumbents did not seek re-election in 2014 and another 11 incumbents advanced past the primary without opposition. The state senators facing primary competition were:
- District 1: Incumbent Shawn A. Keough (R) defeated Danielle Ahrens in the Republican primary.
- District 3: Incumbent Bob Nonini (R) defeated Patrick Whalen in the Republican primary.
- District 4: Mary Souza defeated incumbent John W. Goedde (R) in the Republican primary.
- District 9: Abby Lee defeated incumbent Monty J. Pearce (R) in the Republican primary.
- District 11: Incumbent Patti Anne Lodge (R) defeated Gregory L. Collett and Steve Kren in the Republican primary.
- District 12: Incumbent Todd Lakey (R) defeated Lee Rice in the Republican primary.
- District 13: Incumbent Curt McKenzie (R) defeated Grant Miller in the Republican primary.
- District 15: Incumbent Fred S. Martin (R) defeated Quane Kenyon, Sr. and Diego Rodriguez in the Republican primary.
- District 34: Incumbent Brent Hill
(R) defeated Scott O. Smith in the Republican primary.
