David Macko (Libertarian Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Ohio's 14th Congressional District. Macko was disqualified from the general election scheduled on November 6, 2018.
Macko was disqualified because he was not certified by the Libertarian party.[1]
Macko was previously a 2014 and 2012 Libertarian candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 14th Congressional District of Ohio.[2]
Biography
Macko has been involved in civic and political activities for a number of years. He has been a member of the John Birch Society since 1962 and a Commander of American Legion Post 104 in the early 1980s. From 1988 to 2003, Macko was a Northeast Region Representative for the Libertarian Party of Ohio. His political experience also includes serving as the region's Chairman of the state Libertarian Party and as the 14th Congressional District Representative on the Central Committee of the Libertarian Party of Ohio.[3]

Taxes
Macko said that he would never vote to raise taxes or fees or to impose new taxes or fees.[4]
War on Terror
Macko said that he opposed the War on Terror, as well as the Patriot Act. He also opposed the Department of Homeland Security. Macko advocated abolishing the Transportation Security Agency. He also said that he would work to bring the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan, and use them to protect America's southern border.[5]
Drug War
Macko said that he wanted to end the war on drugs by repealing all federal drug laws. He also supported repeal of all federal gun control laws, including taxes on firearms and ammunition. Macko even advocated abolishing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.[6]
Healthcare
Macko said that if elected, he would work to defund and repeal the health reform law. He would also try to phase out Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. He was also strongly pro-life.[7]

2012
Macko was defeated by Republican David Joyce.[9] Macko ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Ohio's 14th District. Macko faced Dale Virgil Blanchard (D), Elaine R. Mastromatteo (G) and an appointed Republican nominee in the general election on November 6, 2012.
Incumbent Steven C. LaTourette announced his retirement on July 31, 2012, delaying the announcement long enough to prevent the need for a special election to fill the 14th District seat.[10][11]
The Washington Post listed the House of Representatives elections in Ohio in 2012 as one of the 10 states that could have determined whether Democrats retook the House or Republicans held their majority in 2013.[12] Ohio tied with Pennsylvania for ninth on the list.[12]
