Meadows ran in the special election for Alabama House of Representatives District 74. The seat was vacant following Jay Love's (R) resignation to work for the Business Council of Alabama. Meadows faced Heather Sellers and Dimitri Polizos in the October 8 Republican primary. Since no candidate gained more than fifty percent of the votes, the top two vote-getters - Meadows and Polizos - met in a runoff on November 19, which Polizos won.[2][3][4][5]

I am a mother and grandmother who is passionate about improving education in AL. I have a business background and am a strong supporter of School Choice, having started the first charter school in Montgomery in 2019. I understand education policy, having worked in the field since 2006. I know that policies can make a difference and we must have an urgency to improve.
  • I am a strong proponent of School Choice because parents who get to decide the school their child attends will have more engagement and better buy in with the school. The child will perform better.
  • I am a strong believer in the parents right to determine the education of their child and to be aware of and fully informed of curriculum and other decisions made by the board members.
  • We need to hold the state department of education accountable to the local school systems and transparent to the taxpayers.
I want to see Education in AL improve so that we are no longer last place in NAEP rankings. Policies should focus on improving reading and math scores.
To improve education to the point that at least 70% of the children are on grade level in reading in 4 years.
SWenson's scooping ice cream. Worked from age 14-17
Little Women. Probably because I had sisters that were very close to growing up.
Helping my son navigate being on the autism spectrum continues to be a challenge.
The primary job of a state board member is to focus on improving test scores and graduation rates, as well as making sure students graduate with an ability to get a job or go to college.
The parents and taxpayers who live in District 3
Keep an open door policy. Answer the phone when they call
I believe that the public has the right to know what elected officials are doing, as much as possible on every level. That includes how money is spent.

Campaign website

Meadows’s campaign website stated the following:

  • Supports School Choice: I am a proponent of school choice, not just in affluent zip codes. Parents will be more engaged when they choose the school and the traditional schools have been proven to improve with the competition of new options. A child’s future should not be determined by the zip code of their home.
  • Parental Rights in Kids Education: Parents need to know and have a say in what their children are being taught in our classrooms. I support open discussion and participation of parents in school curriculum and instruction.
  • Standing Up to the Woke Agenda: We do not need liberal groups like the NEA bringing their liberal agenda into our elementary schools and public libraries. I will hold the line and work to restore teaching traditional values to Alabama students in our public schools.
  • Improving Education Scores: For almost 30 years, we have seen Alabama's education going in the wrong direction. Obviously what has been pushed isn't working. I will work with teachers and parents to ensure our kids are learning the knowledge and skills needed for every student to be successful.
  • Innovative Ideas for Education: We need to strive to give our kids the tools they need to succeed. We need to focus on expansion of STEM programs in our schools.
  • Fighting Unnecessary Tax Increases: I do not support the raising of taxes when our families our struggling. We have seen time and time again tax referendums being defeated. I believe this is mostly because parents know that there is a lot of waste in school funding.[6]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Alabama

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Alabama scorecards, email suggestions to [email protected].

2022

In 2022, the Alabama State Legislature was in session from January 11 to April 7.

Legislators are scored on their votes on the association's policy platform.
Legislators are scored on their votes on bills related to small business issues.
