Parker (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for the District 10B Seat 2 judge of the North Carolina 10th Judicial District. She won in the general election on November 5, 2024.
Biography
Dunston made the following biographical submission to Ballotpedia:[1]
“ | Judge Ashleigh Parker Dunston is a District Court Judge in the 10th Judicial District, which encompasses Wake County and includes Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to her appointment by Governor Roy Cooper in November 2017, Judge Dunston served the citizens of North Carolina as an Assistant Attorney General at the North Carolina Department of Justice and as an Assistant District Attorney at the Wake County District Attorney's Office.
Judge Dunston graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wake Forest University and cum laude from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She has been practicing law since she was 24 years old. At age 30, Judge Dunston was only the 3rd and youngest African American female to hold this position in Wake County since the District Courts were established over 50 years ago. Judge Dunston is passionate about service to the community both on and off the bench. She currently serves as the President of the NCCU School of Law Alumni Board, Treasurer of the 10th Judicial District/Wake County Bar Association, and Co-Founder of the Capital City Lawyer’s Association Law Day Program. Since its inception in 2014, this program has afforded over 500 minority high school students the opportunity to engage in a mock trial, interact with minority officers and attorneys, and take a tour of the local jail. Previously, she served as Chair of the City of Raleigh Fair Housing Hearing Board and of the Wade Avenue Branch of the State Employee’s Credit Union Advisory Board. Judge Dunston has been recognized as an NCCU Alumni 40 Under 40 and received the 10th Judicial/Wake County Bar Association President’s Award of Excellence and the 10th Judicial/Wake County Bar Association Professionalism Committee’s Spotlight Award for Public Service. In 2018, she was awarded The City of Raleigh Fair Housing Hearing Board’s Leadership Award and the “Salute to Champions” Award from The Sports Shop Radio Show. Judge Dunston prides herself on her judicial philosophy of being “R.E.A.L.: Respectful, Efficient, Active in the Community, and Learned in the Law." She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a wife and mother.[2] |
