Mirlon was an infamous Jasmine Islander. Despite being a member of the small state's security forces, known as the "protectors", he opted to betray his comrades and home country to pirates for money. He thus enabled a major and destructive Fifth Nation raid, though he began to regret his decision after seeing the consequences of his greed.

History[]

Mirlon was born on Jasmine Island to a wealthy family who descended from Southern Water Tribe traders. Lacking the drive and ethics of his ancestors, Mirlon squandered his inherited wealth. Ultimately, his resentful relatives forced him to join Jasmine Island's traditional security forces, the protectors, hoping that this would put him onto a better path.[2] The leader of the protectors, Chidaw, personally trained the young man in seamanship and combat. Despite Chidaw's supportive and encouraging stance,[5] Mirlon resented his new status and duties.[2] Thus, when he encountered a pirate named Erchtei who offered him a large sum of money in return for information on Jasmine Island's defenses, the young man agreed to the deal.[2]

Mirlon subsequently left Jasmine Island and met up with Erchtei and his superior, Tagaka the famous pirate queen of the Fifth Nation. Initially, the turncoat expected to be handed his money and sent on his way for a new life in exile, but the corsairs instead conscripted him into their ranks to accompany the planned raid on Jasmine Island.[5][4] When the pirates arrived at the location, they met an unexpected level of resistance not just by the natives but also a small group of Fire Nationals led by Hei-Ran. As clashes erupted and the pirates made their first landing attempts, Mirlon generally tried to avoid attention and stay out of harm's way.[5] As he witnessed the invaders causing death and destruction at his former home, however, Mirlon began to seriously regret his decisions.[1]

When the Fifth Nation pirates launched their final and strongest attack against Jasmine Island, Mirlon could no longer avoid the carnage and became involved in the fighting. Conversely, he tried to reign in the corsairs' excesses and looting.[1] In the process, he chanced upon a group of protectors, namely Ara, Joh, Fu Karaq, Revik, and Yarru,[6][7] who recognized and confronted him. Mirlon offered no real resistance to his former comrades, only seeking to defend himself.[1]

Personality[]

Striving to prove himself through wealth and fame, Mirlon was ambitious, selfish, and resented his relatives' moderating influence as well as his status among the protectors.[2][8]

Upon witnessing the Fifth Nation raid's destruction, Mirlon became increasingly insecure and regretful over his betrayal. Despite his willingness to betray his oaths to Jasmine Island, he did not want his home to be destroyed.[1][2]

Abilities[]

Mirlon was trained as a warrior by Chidaw and knew several basic combat moves, but he had little inclination for battle.[2][5] He was also a sailor.[5]
